  • What does it cost to use Patreon?

  • Patreon is free to use. You decide how much or little you'll pledge to the creators you love!

  • Okay, but I've made a lot of pledges! How much moolah am I giving to support creators this month? Can I cap that amount?

  • You can view your pledges in your account settings by selecting the View Outbound Pledges button in the top right.

You can set a maximum monthly amount for your pledges. You can do this by logging in, going to the creator’s Patreon page, and clicking the blue “Edit Patronage” button.

If your pledges reach this cap you will not be charged for more patron-supported content from that creator for the rest of the month.

  • Is there a record of everything I've given to creators on Patreon?

  • Click the "View Outbound Pledges" button in your account settings, then hit "All Completed Pledges" to see a historical record of your transactions.

  • How do payments work?

  • Your card will always be charged and processed one time at the end of the month. You can edit or cancel your pledge at anytime before your card is charged. Patreon is a funding and patronage service based around goodwill, so you are never obligated to pay and can cancel anytime. Patreon accepts credit/debit cards and Paypal for payments.

When you've pledged your patronage per content release, you will see a pending pledge” in your account (This has not been charged to your card yet.) Once we process credit cards at the end of the month, your pending pledge will move from “Pending” to “Completed” pledges. This is when your card will be charged.

If you've pledged your patronage per month, you will automatically be charged at the end of each month.

  • Can I make a one-time tip/donation to a creator?

  • We have a had a multiple requests on this front, so this is something we are looking into and figuring out how we can best implement one-off tips and donations. We are currently trying to stay true to what we are, ongoing crowdfunding for creators and artists, but also allow people to add a one off tip to a piece of content they feel extra special about.

In the meantime, you can give you a one time donation by pledging to the creator and then canceling your pledge at any time! But in order for the one time payment to go through, you will have to wait for credit cards to be processed at the end of the month! Once you have been successfully charged, you can edit your pledge lower or remove your pledge completely by visiting the creator's page and hitting 'edit your patronage!'

  • What is the difference between pending pledges and completed pledges?

  • You can view all pending and completed pledges by clicking on the 'view outbound pledges' tab from your home screen.

If you are supporting a creator per month your pledges will never be pending. We will automatically charge your credit card on the 1st of every month. At that time you will see your pledge completed.

If you are supporting a creator per piece of content (per podcast, per song, per animation, etc.) every paid post will be logged in your pending pledges. All pending pledges will be completed once we run credit cards on the 1st of every month. *Remember, you can edit/delete any pending pledge before the 1st of the month before cards are charged.

  • What happens if I delete all my pending (outbound) pledges?

  • Patreon is based on the good-will of patrons in donating to creators. You can absolutely delete all your pending pledges, which will then remove your donation to the creator and any rewards associated with the pledges. Your patronage duration counter (on any ribbons you've collected for this creator) will also reset back to zero. You will still keep any ribbons you've earned!

  • How do I edit my current pledge?

  • The first step is to make sure that you are logged into your account. Then make your way over to the creators page that you are supporting. Then click the blue Edit Your Patronage button and you can edit your pledge from there. If you want to remove any pending pledges, click on My Account and then click on View Outbound Pledges. You will see all of your pending pledges and you can edit and delete pledges from there.

  • Why did my credit card fail? Will you run it again?

  • We do not receive any explanation from credit card companies. Please make sure your card number was inserted correctly, try using another card, or possibly get in contact with your credit card company.

We continue to process updated credit cards every 48 hours. You will be notified if your card is declined a second time.

  • Do you support international payments?

  • Yes, we definitely support international payments!

  • Can I donate in any currency?

  • Yes, but all pledges will be converted to the USD!

  • Do you store my credit card information?

  • We want you to know that your security is the most important thing to us! We never store any of your credit card information on our site. We use Stripe, one of the most secure and reputable payment processors available.

  • If you are a patron of a creator, you will see a grey contact button to message the creator.

you can also try getting in touch via social media.

  • Can I start as a patron and become a creator later?

becoming a creator allows you to create awesome content for your fans. Creators still have the ability to become patrons for other creators.

  • What is GOOD?

  • GOOD is a form of recognition that we are currently in the Beta process of testing. We are constantly working on new ways to reward and recognize patrons, and GOOD is going to be built out to a full Reddit-esque Karma system. And it's not like golf...so the more the merrier!

  • Can I delete my account?

  • We sure do! Check out our toolbox for all of your Patreon page needs!

  • I am a creator of multiple types of content, what do you recommend I do?

  • You have two options. You can do a monthly campaign where your patrons will support you for each month of all types of content you release. Or, you can create two separate Patreon accounts and pages.

  • As a creator, can I become a patron of other creators I love under the same account?

  • Yes you sure can! Also, you can revert your account back to a patron account at any time from your account settings.

  • I’m a creator and want to create a page but I want it hidden from view before I finalize and launch it. Can I make my Patreon page private?

  • How do I upload my creations on Patreon?

  • Uploading Creations to Patreon is easy and allows maximum flexibility for a creator. Creators can release both free content and paid content on Patreon. Free posts do not charge patrons. Paid posts tell our system to charge your patrons. Start all creation posts with the orange plus button in the top right corner. If your content is hosted on another platform (such as Youtube, Tumblr, Soundcloud, etc) simply place the link in the URL section. You can also set the privacy of a post. If the post is of a final creation of yours (meaning the final product), be sure to mark as PAID (so that you get paid for it), PUBLIC (so that fans browsing can view your work while browsing and potentially become a patron.) If you are posting a casual hello to your patrons, head over to your activity feed. This posting is done in-line now as you will see where to add text or an image right on the top of your activity feed. If you are accepting pledges on a per month basis, please continue to post CREATIONS. You will not need to mark them as PAID because our system automatically bills your patrons once a month.”

  • What does it cost to use Patreon as a creator?

  • Patreon is free to join and free to setup your creator page. Only after you make money through pledges on your creator page does Patreon process an approximate 4% for credit card processing fees (we use Stripe, trusted by thousands of sites) and 5% for Patreon to cover operating costs.

More information on credit card fees: Credit card fees are variable for every creator. There are several factors that determine the fees. First, we process all patrons pledges in one bulk transaction at the end of each month. This means if you have patrons that are supporting you...AND another creator the credit card fees will be lower. Where if Im support you for $1, AND another creator at $5, instead of getting two credit card fees and each creator taking a hit the fees are split by both creators resulting in a smaller fee and a larger cut to each creator. Note that as we grow, the fees across the board to creators will lower as patrons will be supporting more of their favorite creators.

Another factor that goes into credit card fees is the amount of micro donations. The smaller amount pledged, the larger amount the fee is.

In an effort to be fully transparent, here is our math example:

    Donation amount $1: $1 - (2.1% + .30c) = .32c fees = 32% credit card fees for this single pledge

    Donation amount $20: $20 - (2.1% + .30c) = .72c fees = 3.6% credit card fees for this single pledge

Remember, these example pledges are outliers, but based upon our average pledge across our site, the credit card fees land at approximately 4%

Also, currency conversions (if international) or PayPal fees depending where patrons are located do have an effect on fees.

We are always looking to reduce and minimize credit card fees for our creators. For example, due to volume and growth, we were recently able to negotiate with Stripe to lower us from 2.9% plus 30 cents to 2.1% plus 30 cents! We are also exploring adding Bitcoin in the near future, which has extremely low fees. Lastly, there is a 0% credit card fee for Creator to Creator patronage.

Make sure you have your “payment receipt” information properly filled out in your account settings so that we know who to make checks out to, or simply enter your Paypal address. We will send out your check within three business days. We can send payments by PayPal, check, or direct deposit. Automatic monthly payments happen before the 15th of each month for accounts with over $100 in them. You can always request immediate payment from your account settings or by emailing payments@patreon.com with your account email address.

If you've arranged payment per content release, then at the end of each month we will total your patron pledges, visible in your patron manager. You'll see the amount pledged and the number of patrons at the time the paid content was released, followed by the dollar amount and the amount processed.

If you've arranged monthly payment we will automatically charge your patrons once at the end of the month and you will be paid out within three business days.

  • How do I fulfill my rewards? Do you give me a dashboard of all necessary info?

  • You bet ya we do! Your patron manager gives you all of the tools necessary to succeed on Patreon!

  • Is my adult/erotic content allowed on Patreon?

  • What is allowed?

Patreon is open to all types of art! Because sexuality is a common theme in many great works of art, Patreon does not ban work featuring nudity or other sexual content.  However, we also want Patreon to be safe and browseable for children and young adults, so please use discretion and common sense: if your artwork could potentially make someone uncomfortable (with violent or sexual themes), please make your posts “patron only,” so that only your supporters are able to see your work, and please do not use explicit language in the title, url, or public description of your Patreon page.  Please also mark your page as “private” in the settings menu so that only users with the url can view it.  Unfortunately, patrons of creators who make NSFW art will not be able to use Paypal as a payment method.

    What is not allowed?

Pornography is not allowed on Patreon. “Pornography” is defined as material designed with the sole intention of eliciting sexual arousal. Specifically, Patreon does not allow:

-Close up depictions of intercourse, masturbation, or genitalia

    -Depictions of sexual bodily fluids

-Any sexual content depicting underage subjects

-Anything we forgot to put on this list but makes our users uncomfortable

Please, use common sense!  We don’t want to remove your account, but we also can’t ignore feedback from our users.  If we get multiple complaints about your account, we will contact you once with a friendly reminder to make your posts patron only, set your page to private, and remove explicit language from your page.  After that friendly reminder, if we hear from our users again, we reserve the right to turn into the Incredible Hulk and remove your account.

You must be at least 18+ years of age to view any adult content or we reserve the right to terminate your account.
