About

The Hermetic Library was created in 1996, in the early days of the commercial Internet, and is one of the most comprehensive and popular resources on the Internet for the kind of information in its collection. Hermetic.com is justifiably famous, and perhaps a little infamous, as the source for an amazing collection of information useful to every researcher and student of esoteric studies and the modern Western tradition. Many students over the last decade found their start and much information useful to them by perusing the materials of The Hermetic Library and started their own electronic libraries by downloading pages and pages of content for their use and research.

My name is John, and I am the enigmatic supervillain known as The Librarian for the Hermetic Library. I would love to have your support and encouragement to continue the ongoing work and expansion of the site and all related projects.

You can help determine the future of the site by supporting my work at digital preservation and presentation of important works in the living Western Esoteric Tradition, Hermeticism in a broad-sense, and Aleister Crowley’s Thelema. Not only that, but you will also support all the work I do with encouraging new music, art and letters from those who feel drawn to these topics and ideas, or, especially, incorporate and manifest ritual and magick in their works.

Your support will give me the chance to find out and share with you what is possible for the future.

What is the Hermetic Library?

The Hermetic Library is primarily a website for which I have an overall vision of Archiving, Engaging and Encouraging the living Western Esoteric Tradition, Hermeticism in a broad-sense, and Aleister Crowley’s Thelema. I encourage you to check out the library, if you aren’t already familiar with it. The site was started in 1996 and has ever since consistently been an extremely popular resource for students and researchers interested in the Western Esoteric Tradition.

With the site, and all related projects, I hope to do my part to engage, and bridge the divides between, gown-cowl-town, between scholars, practitioners and the interested public. In addition to the main reference site with many popular esoteric and occult topics, the overall library effort also includes special projects, many opportunities for participation, active presence on several social networks, and sister sites.

Sister sites include Hrmtc Underground, a network and community of sites and blogs and a forum for discussions that are connected together through their relationship to the mission and overall subject matter of the library; Hermeneuticon, a place for shared wisdom, such as a wiki for projects and developing tools; and Hermetic Hosting, to provide web hosting and support for the esoteric community.

Why have a Patron campaign?

I thought I’d write down a few initial thoughts about why I started the Patreon campaign for the Hermetic Library and why I think having the support of Patrons is important, but the single floor elevator pitch is this: the more Patrons, the more fun for everyone.

What can becoming a Patron make happen?

Please do consider joining the ranks of the remarkably attractive, erudite and welcome Patrons interested in supporting the work of library and reaching the initial campaign milestone, but you might be wondering what else beyond the initial goal can the Patron campaign accomplish with the help of more people …

Who is the Librarian?

Over the years, since taking over the Hermetic Library, I’ve been bemused that I’ve been called enigmatic, anonymous, mysterious, and various other similar epithets as the Librarian. I’ve come to joke about myself as having a secret identity … the Enigmatic Super Villain known only as the Librarian!
