Milestone Goals
Paying Rent
$550 per game or experiment
At this level, I'll be paying my rent with these little games, each month that I release something. That's a big personal milestone, though it might not have any significance for you.
Commissioning Art
$700 per game or experiment
At this level, I'll commission at least one piece of art for every game I release via Patreon. I'll endeavor to spotlight artists from marginalized backgrounds (especially queers and people of colour).
$1,100 per game or experiment
At this level, I'll bring in and pay a co-developer each month. This will mean very different things with each game or experiment. It might include: paying an editor, paying an artist to do multiple pieces, paying someone to code a web app, or splitting the funds with someone who shares equal design work.

I think I've found my calling. It's designing games and supporting cultures of play.

My game design work (which includes Monsterhearts and The Quiet Year) is all contained at Buried Without Ceremony. You'll notice that there's a page of free games, which this Patreon campaign helps me set aside the time to create.

I'm also the current coordinator of Game Chef, the founder and curator of Imaginary Funerals, one of the organizers of Terminal City Story Games, and a big advocate of queer games.

I want to release free games and community projects. But rent and grocery bills keep existing for some reason. This Patreon will help make it possible for me to dedicate my time to scrappy projects, micro-games, alternate-reality play-as-you-live-your-life games, Twine experiments, and games-related community endeavours.
