Who are we?
Co-founded by Heather McDaid & Laura Jones in mid-2016, 404 Ink interested in tackling publishing with new eyes - bringing a mix of voices, stories and topics to you in a well-designed package. In 2019 we brought poet extraordinaire Imogen Stirling on board as Project Officer to help us rebrand and revitalise this very magazine.
What are we doing?
In 2016 404 Ink started a new literary magazine, released twice a year, collecting a mix of short stories, non-fiction and comics from multiple writers across Scotland and the world. We soon branched out into publishing books like Nasty Women, Hings & HWFG by Chris McQueer, The Goldblum Variations by Helen McClory, Let Me Tell You This by Nadine Aisha Jassat, Animals Eat Each Other by Elle Nash and more! We looking to publish little but publish loudly, showcasing a broad range of contemporary voices and topics.
To do all of this, we need a little support to help bring these voices to you. As with everything, this requires a little money. In return for your support, we'll be giving you well-designed, curated and edited magazine and behind the scenes reveals before the general public.
404 Ink also want to know what you love and don't love about mags. We might even publish based on what you, our Patrons, want. We don't want to be gatekeepers, we want publishing to be a two-way street and what better way to create a collaborative community than through Patreon?
How does it work?
Sign up as a 404 Patron and we will charge your pledged amount twice a year when the new issue of our lit mag is available. We plan for this to happen around June and December of each year.
As a Patron you'll have access to super secret Patron-only posts and previews, as well as some more exciting plans afoot further down the line. You can tell us if they're good ideas or not...
I'm not based in the UK but would like a print copy. Do you post internationally?
Yes, we can post the magazine internationally, though we'd ask you to pledge at the $25 level to help us cover postage costs. Being such a small operation we can't afford to cover postage and packaging outside of the UK on our own. We hope you understand!
And that's all she wrote.
