OUR BACKGROUND

Sebastian was born and raised in Fresno, California. Since the age of 10, he’s wanted to make films. A lot of his inspiration to start came from the works of Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Christopher Nolan. He was interested in recreating the feeling he experienced after watching their films. With his father’s laptop, he began editing video game trailers with together with music he enjoyed, with the goal of creating a cinematic experience. He loved it.

With this new-found enjoyment, in 2008, he started with a Youtube channel where he made edits on already existing video-game trailers. Though, soon enough, editing someone else’s material became mundane for him. Consequently, he taught himself how to hack his game (Super Smash Brothers), allowing him to create his own films by giving him the ability to create unique camera angles. His video-game films helped him grow an audience, while becoming more knowledgable about the filmmaking process. With an audience of over two thousand subscribers and at the age of 14, he was signed as a director for Machinima (now acquired by Warner Bros.), a production company that became one of the top entertainment networks for video game related videos. In this time, he made videos based on video games for audiences of over 1 million.

Upon graduating high school in 2012, he moved to Los Angeles to study film. In the big film city, using video games as an engine for filmmaking did not seem right for him. Sebastian shut down his Youtube channels to focus on his studies to make real films. Though, because of insecurities of after-graduation job prospects and his success running several Youtube channels, it wasn’t long until he got interested in business world, transferring to the University of California, Berkeley from Santa Monica College for school. After all, his Youtube channels eventually turned into their own business. Filmmaking was completely out of mind during this time. At Berkeley, he earned a B.S. in Business Administration in 2016 and helped start a Silicon Valley grocery startup. The startup went through the renowned incubator, Y Combinator in the winter of 2017.

Although it was an enriching experience, it took a couple of years for him to find that running a grocery business wasn’t for him. He felt he couldn’t get the creative satisfaction that he once had and can potentially get again from filmmaking. It wasn’t until July of 2018, where Sebastian made the decision to leave the company to go full force into filmmaking. He moved back home to Fresno to start Werz Company and 511 Films. Werz Company serves clients commercially while 511 Films makes films intended for an entertainment audience.

Today, Sebastian lives and breathes cinema. He strives to improve his work everyday, learning the latest in filmmaking techniques and studying from the greats. Above all, he feels he must, and will work his legs off, to share compelling stories from new and unique perspectives.
