Communicate and Tell Great Stories

We are scientists that make science films and we want to show you some of the techniques used to tell the nonfiction media that we produce.

What we'll do: We will help you tell your story with one video every other week.

Our behind-the-scenes tutorials have become popular, so we'd like to spend a bit of time explaining the process we use to others. We will make short videos detailing how to use visual storytelling skills to showcase your passions. Most of what we talk about is tied to the science films we make, but you can apply it to any type of filmmaking you're doing - from small business films to larger docs.

Who are we? We're Rob and Jonas. We've been running our Science Filmmaking Tips YouTube channel since 2015. Often, we mix in our growing families or team up with other filmmakers, to help teach.

Why we need your help? We're freelancers and life isn't easy jumping from job to job. We're either looking for jobs or away from our families doing them. We spend most of our spare time making these YouTube resources to help other filmmakers and scientists. However, we'd like to continue doing these shorts and sustain this outreach. With your support of this Patreon page, we can continue to dedicate our time to making these quality educational videos.

What are you supporting? Each of the videos we make takes us 20-40 hours to create, even the simple ones. Your support will help us make more regular content and allow us to create the quality you’ve come to expect.

What about that science videos? When we started this channel was doing both - now the science films are supported by another patreon account - Untamed Science. So if you're wanting to fund our science outreach, we encourage you to help do that there.

How it works? We have many different REWARDS (at right) that you can choose. Consider a contribution of even $1/video to help support our work. Patreon will charge you at the end of each month for the videos we've made (typically 2-4), and you are free to cap the amount you spend each month as well!

If you've made it here, thank you. We're humbled. You realize our videos take a lot of work, and you want to help.

Goals
61% complete

This marks about halfway to making these tutorials somewhat sustainable! We'll celebrate with you by making a huge camera-cake and eating it as we field questions for one of our LIVE streams. Sounds rediculous, but it's the best idea we have to help celebrate the push towards this goal with you all.
