This tier is for those who would like to join in with and discover more about my practical processes while writing and illustrating the story of my garden, from first steps to the final publishing in printed book form.

As well as my regular updates included in the Story Follower tier, I'll be creating more in depth video and written content from time to time, on processes and experiences. This will include:

About

Hello, I'm Judy Coleman. At the start of 2020, at the age of 61 and needing to make a living again, I wanted to see if I could start a new working life built around writing and drawing. I had plans to, amongst other things, start up a not for profit "community interest company" centred on setting up free drop-in public spaces, where people of all ages could gather and draw together…

Then the coronavirus arrived and the world changed almost overnight. (Spaces where people could gather together… hmmm, well clearly that's shelved for the time being; so what else?)

I live in a tiny one-bedroom house known as a "quarterback". It forms one corner of a block of four similar houses, and has a small outside area in front about six feet deep from the public pavement (the sidewalk for my American friends), two parking spaces and a narrow strip stretching out at a right angle to one side. I'm asthmatic, so during the virus crisis I'm having to shield and remain in my own small space. However, I can spend time outside since my garden, though tiny, is nowadays fairly enclosed; it wasn't always that way.

Since moving in, about 27 years ago I've gradually developed the garden from two narrow strips of grass, completely open to passers by, into a fairly private space with three separate seating areas, a garden studio (The Big Shed), a bike shed, and a mass of planting that provides wonderful fragrances and blooms, and a fair degree of privacy and security. Much of it has developed as a result of unhappy events and challenges and it's occurred to me that this is the time to write about how and why it's become the safe and beautiful place that I, particularly just now, am so grateful to have.

So while I isolate and stay safe during this year that suddenly has changed to become one of reflection and survival, I thought I'd turn my writing and drawing skills to sharing the story of my garden with you.

I'm hoping there's a book here for when we come out the other side of this.
