About A.L. DeLeon

Thank you for being here and checking out what I'm attempting to accomplish. It means a lot to me that you're willing to spend a little of your time here :)

Who am I?

A little about me as a person- I go by April and write under the pen name A.L. DeLeon. I am raising three kids on my own, that in itself makes life somewhat complicated but not boring :)

I've been writing as a creative outlet for as long as I can remember.  I'm also a former non-profit director, so at some point I'm gonna want to do more than writing. I'm also going to want to help others as much as I'm able to. Someday I'd like to start my own non-profit advocating travel, cultural relations, and education. And own my own bookstore... but those are further down the line of goals and dreaming.

First, I want to get my written work out there, establish myself as an author, and get to know people by sharing these stories of mine.

What kinds of stories do I write, you ask?

I write fantasy fiction, occasionally some sci-fi, as well as, poetry every now and again. My first novel, Blue - a traditional epic fantasy, is expected to be published with Dragon Moon Press sometime in 2019.  More details will come as I get them.

Many times my time is diverted from writing because of the need to maintain other sources of income to keep up my daily adult life- making sure my kids and I have a roof over our heads, etc.  This is where Patreon comes in.

What will Patreon supporters like you help me do?

1. Finish Song of Life (formerly Blue), book 1 of 3 in a planned trilogy, to be published with Dragon Moon Press.

Update: Book 1, Song of LIfe, is done and releases on March 10, 2020! Pre-order dates to be announced soon! Available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and most major outlets.
I'm now working on the outline and draft of book 2.

2. Format and self publish a compilation of poetry that I've written over the last 10 years.

Update: Cover design artwork is done for this, still need to carefully choose and edit the poems, but it will be done and released sometime mid 2019, maybe sooner.

3. Format, edit, and make available via self publishing a series of short stories I've been writing. First I plan to release each individually by e-book and then later to compile them each into one book, tentatively titled the "Shot Glass Reading Series." These short stories will each have a cover illustrated by local artists. In support of their work, I'd like to pay them for their time and efforts.

Update: One short story, Xersa's Red, has been released on Amazon. there are nine others I'm still working on polishing up and sourcing local artists for the artwork to be used on their covers. I hope to release at least one of these in 2019.

4. Plan, format, and begin making available a monthly short story magazine online, and then later in print, showcasing work from a multitude of other talented Indie and small press authors, entitled Crimson Whiskey Magazine. I'll need others to help with this idea and it might take some time to plan out how to publish it, garner work from other authors, and ultimately pay the authors for the work they provide to be included. The same is true for the formatters/editors who will contribute to it as well.

Update: Crimson Whiskey is still in planning stages, but closer to reality. Goal to really start this is late 2019-2020.

5. Reach other goals such as travel for research purposes, upgrade and maintain my author website, attend more writer's conferences, utilize other tools out there to help me continue to become a better author, be able to participate in events where I can met and engage with readers and patrons like you, and ultimately produce more written works and give back to my community.

Happiness starts here :)

This gets everything rolling in the right direction and stories start become real- as in outside of my head and onto paper (or e-paper) and well on the way to becoming books.

Plus, you'll get to see me super humbled and excited to see this journey take flight!
