About Acquired Savant Artist

In acquired savant syndrome astonishing new abilities, typically in music, art or mathematics, appear unexpectedly in ordinary persons after a head injury, stroke or other central nervous system (CNS) incident where no such abilities or interests were present pre-incident.

I name is Julianna, an approaching 60-year-old medical aesthetician who worked with a very prominent plastic surgeon. I'm a mom to my 4 children, Jack, Jaedon, McKenna and Savannah and a wife of 12 years to my husband Jared. Last year, I had a major stroke that changed my life dramatically.

Imagine waking up from this nightmare, finding out you had suffered a major stroke. You start to remember things you did everyday. For the most part your daily happenings begin to return. However, your life has completely changed. You have completely changed.

You begin having intense vivid dreams about painting. You had no idea what you were going to paint, until it was flowing from your fingertips. This is what happened to me March of 2018.

Now I have spent the last year developing a very unique painting style. One that has no internal image, and no destination before I start.

I usually start with a photo, but the paintings and the photo don’t necessarily end up in the same place.

I’ve been playing with Acrylic paint recently and loving it. I’ve dabbled with water soluble oils, but something about the fast drying time of Acrylics is lending to an energy I have been searching for but thus far have not attained. There also seems to be a color shift for me in terms of brighter chroma. I have no idea why! Perhaps because of the mere fact that I need to get this stuff on the canvas before it dries, and therefore I am not overthinking or over-working. Liberating!

As an artist, I dislike self promotion. My goal with my art is to paint decent paintings, connect with other artists, and share what I've learned with those willing to listen. I do like to eat and need pay my bills, though, so marketing my artwork is important. Painting is my job, and sales aren’t just going to magically happen.

A traumatic event unlocked a hidden talent.
Sometimes I paint for hours, sometimes days at a time.

That's the fascinating thing about the brain. There's just that unknown. The brain is an amazing thing.

A traumatic event unlocked a hidden talent.
