About

Welcome to Animal Culture Magazine! We are three artists, Patricia Denys, Creative Director, Mary Holmes, Editor, and Karlie Kawa, Art Director, who have joined together to combine our creative skills and our passion for animals in order to create a magazine for animals! Between us, we have published a photography book, Animal Magnetism, won a Silver Award and a Gold Award from the American Advertising Federation for Animal Culture in our first year, and created an award-winning film short, “Awesome Living With Andy,” all for animals. We all have long histories in animal rescue and animal activism and see the magazine as a powerful and timely voice!

In doing this work, we have connected to nationally and internationally known writers, artists, activists and others, all of whom are engaged in speaking up for those who cannot advocate for themselves.

Animal Culture aspires to educate, motivate, and celebrate by featuring exclusive and timely interviews with artists, writers, and other animal advocates, along with book reviews, humane education, visual culture information, cruelty-free product reviews, plant-based recipes, and legislative alerts. Our content is original and our interviews are exclusive. Currently the magazine is online and is published bimonthly. As our support grows we will have it available in print form and publish monthly as well.

Animal Culture addresses head-on the issues that animals confront—such as their lives in shelters and the harsh conditions they face in the food, entertainment, fashion, and research industries. The magazine shines a spotlight on those animals who are hidden, misunderstood, and not listened to—as well as those human beings who are fighting to protect them.

Please join us in creating a powerful voice for animals, a voice needed now more than ever.

For the Animals,

Patricia, Mary and Karlie

Goals
27 of 1500 patrons
Our goal is to produce a credible magazine to educate, motivate and celebrate issues about and for animals. Our content is original and our interviews are exclusive! Reaching our first patron goal will allow the 3 of us to have the time to produce our magazine rather than taking on additional jobs in order to produce it. We will be able to maintain camera equipment, computers, fund travel for a more diverse publication, including photo shoots, and move towards producing a printed version of Animal Culture as well as our on-line version plus move from bimonthly to monthly. Our patrons are helping us help the animals!
