About Anni and John Furniss (The Blind Woodsman)
We are Anni and John Furniss. We believe art can change the world!
We are a married couple living in the Pacific Northwest and fortunate enough to both be artists. Anni has been an artist for over 20 years and focuses mostly on painting and mixed media. John is a woodworker, using the lathe to create bowls, canisters, and mortar & pestles.
Something unique about our relationship is that John is totally blind. This sometimes creates challenges, but mostly it creates opportunities to try things in inventive ways. You've heard of the word disabled, but John likes to focus on the things he CAN do versus what he cannot. We DO like to put an emphasis on his blindness when talking about his artistic endeavors. We believe it will break down limited beliefs that people generally have about physical differences.
We hope you'll take a look around and if you like what you see, please feel free to share with your friends.
Our dream together is to make a living creating art, enriching the world and making it more beautiful. We are also very passionate about sharing our journeys of using art to overcome personal challenges. John is a suicide survivor and often does public speaking on suicide prevention and awareness. This year he has spoken with almost 1,000 people about his incredible story of perseverance. Your contribution will help him continue sharing this important journey with others.
We'd love to share our world with you in fun and original ways. Through stories, videos, and eventually a book!
If you feel compelled to stay connected with us through this channel of support, we would love to share our experiences with you.
You can still stay connected through other avenues too: Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok (@theblindwoodsman and anni.the.artist) and our website.
Well, thanks for stopping by, please let us know if you have any questions, or even any suggestions for opportunities like podcasts or speaking events.
We hope to "see" you around!
Ways your Patreon participation will help:
1. Art and Woodworking materials
2. Able to take time dedicated to public speaking about suicide prevention, the healing powers of art, and blind awareness
3. Allowing us to share art with others
4. Helping us do practical things like pay bills and keep our studio spaces warm during the Winter
5. Allowing us to focus on our exciting new projects, two books called "I See You" and a children's book called "The Night Whale" (We are so excited to share that with you all!)
