Hello everyone!

My name is Ava and I am an art student living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. I created this Patreon account as a simple way for friends and family to help me towards my goal of being a professional artist. At first, the money went to purchase art supplies. As I started entering those newly finished works into calls for art, I realized how very expensive they are. After looking a few things over I realized that this is something I really needed help with. That's where you come in.

Why I'm asking

Participating in exhibitions is the lifeblood of every new and emerging artist. A call for art normally carries a cost of between $15 - $45 each. If I am accepted into a show, I have to pay for shipping and insurance of my work, to and from the show (regardless if the piece sells) on top of whatever I have paid for the entrance fee. If I am lucky and the piece sells, I lose about %50 of the price to the gallery hosting the show and cover any shipping to the buyers home. If I don't get accepted, I still lose the entrance fee. See how quickly this gets expensive? Currently, I am able to submit to between 2-3 calls a year on my own.  With your help, I hope to reach my goal of 104 exhibition submissions annually. (About 2x per week) Reaching this goal will drastically increase my chances of receiving an acceptance letter. Every time I receive an acceptance letter my ability to sustain myself as a working artist grows. Any help you can give me toward my long term goal of becoming a self-sustaining artist would be greatly appreciated.

Doing my Part

This blog will document every single show I enter, attend, deny or am rejected from along with all of my other comings and goings. I will name the show, the work I submitted, my results (If I receive one) and everything else in between. The nature of this blog also means that there will never be a post that hides behind a paywall. I see it as a kind of travel blog that showcases Call for Art submissions. Since these posts are public I hope this information will become a helpful guide for other artists as well.
