I’m re-organizing my Patreon to focus on comics!

I make original short comics that range from non-fiction science communication pieces to complete fantasy stories. I have a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management and a background in communications and visual arts. A lot of my comics are a mix of fantasy and scientific information woven together. My stories typically feature animals, nature, slice-of-life humor, adventures, all-age stories and watercolor art.

I have so many comics I want to work on! With your support, I can get them finished and printed. I have a slew of projects in various stages, from “this is a defined idea with concept sketches” to “I need to finish these pages”.

As a supporter, you would be charged only when I finish a minicomic or book. You will be not be charged by month. It may take a while between finished books, depending on the project (between 1 - 3 or more months).

Here’s a sample list of comics I could finish, with your help...

“Stories from Bird Banding” standalone book - the original “Bird Banding” comic I drew for “Boundless” anthology + extra bird banding comics + other bonus material. (A full-color bird guide? A collection of goofy bird photos from bird banding sessions?)

“Nekomata” standalone book
- the original “Nekomata” comic I drew for “Screams Heard ‘Round the World” anthology + bonus material (the translated scene of a yokai street party in the story and a guide to each yokai depicted).

“Nekomata” follow-up minicomic
- I have ideas/drafts of comics about the further adventures of Yoshiko, Mikan and their new friends from the yokai world.

“Kattan and the Volcano” - a longish fantasy story about creatures trying to get out of a volcano. Currently posted on Tumblr and Tapas. This comic is actually half-inked; a few more minicomic-chapters should wrap it up.

“The Errant GPS” - 5-8 pages. A short magic-realism story that I drafted out about a GPS that does strange things. A comic for everyone who is lousy at navigating sans technology.

“The Metamorphosis of Asil” - 15-20 pages. Short fantasy story inspired by insects. A creature is trying to get her young sister to finish her instar stage and turn into an adult already.

“The Beetle and the Sanderling” - 20-25 page. Story about an American Burying Beetle and a Sanderling going on an adventure. Loosely based on real creatures and the setting of Block Island in Rhode Island. My comics are generally written as all-ages, but this one in particular has an elementary/middle school kids-comic vibe.

“Quartz Bones of the Appalachia” - 6-10 pages. Short fantasy story with ecology themes. A researcher and a giant creature chat in the Appalachian mountains.

“Fifty Seals by the Shore” - 5-8 pages. Autobio story of when I was working in water ecology in Cape Cod and taking samples at beaches.

“The Albatross People” - reprint of the comic or a possible short follow-up comic. (I’m thinking maybe a wordless comic with watercolor oceanscapes).

“A Quick Guide to Poison Ivy” - Honestly, I wish someone would just give me this book, because I constantly get poison ivy. This is a non-fiction minicomic and a companion to “A Quick Guide to Ticks and Lyme Disease” that I’m considering creating.

“Mark and the Gillys” - scif slice-of-life stories about living on another world. I haven’t printed comics from this series in a while, but I’d like to return and finish more comics.

And more….!

For more of my work, check out my bird illustrations and comics about a giant chickadee (fiction) or an invasion of caterpillars (non-fiction) on my website. Or, read comics I co-created about mosquitoes and other vectors at the Couret Vector Biology Lab website.
