About BambiKhan

Welcome adventurer!

Come with me as we journey across the globe in search of dragons, monsters, mermaids, and all things cryptozoological. Together we’ll paint, document, and research these rare creatures of fae in their natural habitat, and take a glimpse into their hidden worlds.

I've always loved mythology, the stories that humans create to explain the universe, and the monsters that have sprung from those beliefs. I believe these creatures have more than one story to tell: the story you know, the untold tale of where they are now, and what they can tell us about ourselves.

The field guides are born

It all started with "A field guide to Dragons, Serpents, and Wyrms of the World"  which absolutely exploded on Kickstarter. It was followed the next year by a successful "Unicorns, and Mythic Beasts of Hoof and Horn," which also quickly overfunded.  After 15 years of tattooing(which I'll be answering all your questions about that industry, and as a backer you'll get priority booking) I left my financial security,  sold my shop, joined a traveling circus, and started painting full time.

The next evolution

I'm currently at work on "Merfolk" which is turning out to be a VERY different beast. The topic is huge, the stories complex, and the paintings are more detailed and complicated. For the first time I'm writing the text entirely on my own, and for the first time I am including a human element, which requires a bit more care as we explore subjects of all different body types and skin tone. Your support of this Patreon allows me to explore this topic in depth, and produce much bore detailed and careful art.

Let's explore together

I work best when I am learning new things. Each month we'll choose a topic, creature, legend, cryptid, book, or game, and work on a series of paintings related to that monster and its friends. On this page you'll get sneak peeks of what I'm working on, the materials I use, the research i'm using, and timelapse videos of the process.

About Patreon

Patreon is a platform where people who like the art I am doing and the things I produce can offer some financial help. It's like a virtual tip jar that allows me to upgrade equipment, produce things like stickers and prints, and mundane things like...eat. Becoming a Patron of the Arts is easy, and you can adjust your pledge whenever you want.

Please note: The reward levels can change as we evolve. I'll give you plenty of notice if this is going to happen. You can change your level whenever you like, but please make sure you update your address if your reward includes a physical item.

The field expedition team

Your patronage supports an entire network of artists, makers, and organizers. You'll meet Mollie: my wrangler, nagger, and order fulfiller. Amanda, who will be airlifting these creatures out of the Baja penninsula for delivery to you. Joe, who does all of my digitizing, layout, and design work. My partner Mickey, who makes sure I'm safe, fed, and exercised.

Upgrades! Living on the road, meeting this goal will allow me to upgrade my video equipment, as well as access higher speed internet for more uploads.
