Berlin Untelevised

A platform for artists ready to dispute

When it comes down to it, we want control, and we want all artists to be able to have that same control. With the help of people like you, organizations like ours have become possible.

Independent Music Label!

Gone are the days of musicians being forced to sign to a huge record label or fear sinking into obscurity. We have a diverse line up of artists who we have the pleasure to call friends and collaborators. In the coming months, we will be releasing albums, videos, and online content featuring these incredible artists.

Unlike your standard label, we don't confine ourselves to one genre or style. We will be representing all of the musical textures of Berlin. We've got phat beatboxers, celestial singers, multi-faceted rappers, jazz musicians, bedroom producers... Seriously. The list is ridiculous.

Independent Publishing Company!

Alongside our dive into the musical side of things, we will have a rotating pair of creative writers on the team. Every two months, one poet and one prose writer will be composing pieces on a theme or story they have agreed to collaborate on. These pieces will be published in an eight part series on our blog. This series will then be published at the end of the two month period as an illustrated chapbook, which will also contain a download link to a reading of the work by either the authors or artists of their choosing.

Just like our musical side, the pool of writers from which we will be selecting is as diverse as the city of Berlin. We are hoping to provide you with unique and thought provoking work. We are hoping to make you think, to occupy your dreams, to fill you with wonder.

Where Do I Come In?

You are one of the most important parts of the process. Your contributions will help make all of this possible. As we gain more support from our patrons, we will be able to print more chapbooks, press more tapes, and most importantly, provide our artists with a larger piece of the pie.

The Origin Story

Once upon a dark and stormy night, three dope earth shakers collided in a Berlin cellar and collaborated on what, unbeknownst to us, would become the force known as Berlin Untelevised.

Lexodus, Knockout Knob, and Elijah Elpenor (a.k.a. your humble narrator) have come a long way since we first met in that dingy bar basement in 2016. In March of 2016, we sat down for the very first episode of The DubTalk. Back then, the show was also called Berlin Untelevised, but things have changed for the better. We started off rough around the edges, but we've honed our craft and content, establishing the style of The DubTalk and with it our own strength as a trio. (If you want to know more about The DubTalk, there's a cheeky synopsis below.)

We have now realized that The DubTalk was just the first step in an ambitious journey to create a platform for the dope musicians and artists who call Berlin home. Hence, the name change. Berlin Untelevised is now the name under which we three madmen are planning on releasing all manner of artistic content.

The Fuck is The DubTalk?

Good of you to ask. The key concepts behind the technique are:
  • Live, Improvised musical collaboration, a.k.a. "Jamming".
  • A Guest Artist
  • Pre-written pieces by the Guest Artist meant to showcase their Craft.
  • Engagement with Guest Artist about their Craft and how they are using it to send a message.
Oh and of course.
  • Live, 100% Improvised Jamming.
Easy as pie.
The amazing thing about improvisational creativity is the fact that it exists in all of us.The artists we invite into the K12, our studio, are simply being asked to let loose. The only rule inside a recording session is that any and all sounds be dropped into the microphone, so Knockout Knob can use them to let the music in all of us roam free.
