About Bettina Joy de Guzman

                                                   Myths and Ancient Songs

Hello, Everyone! I'm Bettina Joy de Guzman, a multi-instrumentalist, Classicist, and educator.  I perform ancient poems and songs, especially those from ancient Greece and Rome, all over the world. I am a 2021 Associate and Visiting Artist for Harvard University's Center for Hellenic Studies. I am also a public high school teacher and... Greek tv host! I share what I learn in lectures and videos on my YouTube channel. My main interest is in sharing Ancient Mediterranean culture not only with my own students, but with the public, of all ages. Your support will help my international research and music projects, which I will continue sharing through public lectures and performances.

As an experienced performer of world dance and music, I explore how songs transmit storytelling traditions and how individual cultures define themselves through song and dance. And most importantly, how do we relate to any of this today? You can see my interviews, music, videos, and more here: www.bettinajoydeguzman.com

I lecture, sing authentic ancient poetry (especially Greek epic and drama), and play historical instruments in various universities and museums all over the world, including National Archaeological Museum in Athens, and Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki.I was recently interviewed, and debuted a new song on WNYC and WQXR radio, for a New York Public Library event, to introduce international bestselling author Madeline Miller, by Madeline’s special request. I taught Ancient Greek and Roman history, as well as mythology, at the University of California in Irvine. My interdisciplinary studies include Bachelor’s degrees in Music, Classics, English, and Psychology. I edited the book, Ancient Greek Lyre: Learning Method, by Nikos Xanthoulis (Artistic Consultant of National Greek Opera), which was shortlisted for the Good Life category of Greek Public Book Awards. As President of California Classical Association South, I organize panels twice a year. I am co-creator and host of Cosmote TV, History Channel, “Ancient Greek Culture, Now!” which aired January 2021 in Greece. I've been a been a guest performer for Out of Chaos Theater and Harvard University Center for Hellenic Studies’ series “Reading Greek Tragedy Online”. My music recordings and video performances continue to be shown in Classics courses as part of lecture enrichment and supplementary material.

Your support would be most greatly appreciated.

With hope and gratitude,
Bettina Joy de Guzman
