About Kimberly Seals Allers

Hello and welcome to the Patreon page for Kimberly Seals Allers and the Birthright podcast.

I'm an award-winning journalist and former senior editor at Essence, turned passionate advocate, international public speaker, five-time author, and tech founder. My sweet spot is motherhood and the intersection of race, policy, and class, with a particular focus on centering Black and brown women and birthing people, and eradicating racial disparities in birth and breastfeeding.

I created the Birthright podcast because I was increasingly concerned with the mainstream narrative of Black maternal health that was mostly deadly headlines, dire statistics, and negative prospects. What about the JOY? We must also leverage joy as a tool for birth equity.

Birthright is a podcast about stories of joy and healing in Black birth.

By seeking out and exploring positive birth stories we can build confidence, find solutions, and identify blind spots in our quest to make the birth experience equitable for all Black birthing bodies. Join me on this journey! Along the way, during this season I will also host healing circles for those who have experienced some form of birth trauma to move them on the path to joy and healing.

Season one of Birthright is funded by the California Health Care Foundation, but here you can help support more healing circles and my broader work of advancing equity in birth and breastfeeding and making sure mothering is valued as important work. I do that by writing and creating audio, and video content, including my weekly Milkshake Monday series on Instagram and Facebook, where I discuss breastfeeding news and issues and all things infant feeding.

You can get early access to podcast episodes and extras, get special audio content on issues in birth and breastfeeding, early access and discounts to conferences and online webinars, and a monthly AMA (Ask Me Anything).

Thank you for supporting me and my work! All contributions are greatly appreciated.

In motherhood,
Kimberly
