Pride of place in my china cabinet. You're AWESOME, so you rate a mention in the “Acknowledgements” page of my book when it is published. Which it will be. Because I had the financial security to write it. Thanks to you.

About Kaitlyn Blythe

Hello! I'm Kaitlyn. I'm a writer, podcaster and performer. You might know me under my old name, Kaitlyn Plyley. I'm now, uh, Blythe by name. If you don't know me at all, here's my bio for a quick introduction (and you can find out more at my personal website kaitlynblythe.com):

Kaitlyn Blythe (formerly Kaitlyn Plyley) is a writer, podcaster and performer based in Melbourne via Brisbane and Perth. Her writing has been published by The Lifted Brow, Seizure, The Sydney Morning Herald, Junkee, VICE and others. In 2010 Kaitlyn was a national finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam, and a chapter of her poetry appears in the 2013 anthology Fremantle Poets 3: Performance Poets. Kaitlyn was a 2019 Hot Desk Fellow at the Wheeler Centre and received a Copyright Agency IGNITE grant to work on her unpublished book manuscript about chronic illness. Her conversation podcast Just A Spoonful has appeared in the iTunes Australia Top 100 and at the National Young Writers Festival. With co-writer Jessica Healy Walton, Kaitlyn is currently developing a screenplay about disability and love.

It's tough to make a living in the creative industries - and particularly tricky when you have a disability, like I do. I live with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, a debilitating chronic condition which makes it impossible for me to work full-time hours, or even find a part-time job. I've written about the challenges of living on a low income with a disability for VICE and Seizure. I'm mostly house-bound and surviving off the disability pension. However, I have massive ambitions and with a bit of help I reckon I can make them happen.

Your support means that I can thrive instead of barely survive. My monthly income from Patreon gives me the opportunity to plan and work on my own projects. Check out my Patreon goals to find out what your patronage helps me do.

Much of my work is dedicated to improving awareness and circumstances for people with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Creative work is important for its own sake, but I also feel an urgency to use my voice for social and structural change. I live with an incurable medical condition that destroys the lives of millions, can be fatal, and subjects patients to a quality of life lower than that of people with Multiple Sclerosis or cancer. Yet hardly anyone outside the patient community is talking about it or seeking solutions. I'm writing a book I hope will move the needle another millimetre for myself and other ME patients in Australia, and this Patreon is how I will have the ability to do that.

Thanks for checking out my Patreon. You're awesome, and even if you can't support me through a pledge right now, your interest in my work means a lot to me.

$555.32 of $1,400 per month
Room Of One's Own. With this monthly income supplementing my Disability Support Pension payments, I'll be officially out of housing stress! This would allow me to afford to live in a safe, accessible home and keep writing without worrying about affording food and stuff.
