Being a community organizer means a lot of running around hither and yon, putting things in place and making things work. Your help will make it possible for me to hop, skip and jump around town and make magic happen!

On-the-ground organizing is long, hard and often expensive work. Surprisingly, one of the biggest expenses is administrative costs, like making copies, paying for city permits and keeping software and online services up-to-date. `Your assistance will enable me to keep the processes behind our work running smoothly!

With all this running around doing community organizing, it can be very difficult to eat healthy meals, but I've found that eating right is essential to being able to keep up with such a huge workload. Your support gives me the ability to afford healthy food that will help me to thrive while I dedicate my time to making the world a better place!

Brenda Sanders is a food justice activist who works to bring healthy, affordable and sustainable food choices to low-income communities in Baltimore City.

She is the founder and president of Afro-Vegan Society, a non-profit organization that works to make the vegan lifestyle accessible, affordable, and approachable in predominately black areas and neighborhoods. Afro-Vegan Society empowers the black community by using veganism as a tool to overcome systemic race-based oppression shared among those who have a common African ancestry.

Brenda is also co-founder and co-coordinator of Thrive Baltimore, a dynamic community resource center located in the Station North community of Baltimore City. Run by a collective of food, environmental and social justice activists, our mission is to provide education, resources and support to anyone interested in adopting a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.

And she's a founding member of PEP Foods, a collective of vegan food activists whose mission is to produce delicious, healthy foods that offer an affordable alternative to animal products. The main goal of PEP Foods is to increase the demand for vegan cuisine by creating great-tasting, cruelty-free products that everyone can afford.

Brenda also co-created Vegan SoulFest, an annual festival that celebrates culture and the vegan lifestyle by making lectures, cooking demos, musical performances, delicious food and other products and services available to help expose people to the many benefits of the vegan lifestyle.

Brenda is a member of the speakers bureau of the American Vegan Society. She is on the advisory board of Food Empowerment Project, is a Community Food Outreach Specialist / Organizational Partner to A Well Fed World, and is a collaborator to Striving with Systems.
