About

Hey, Everyone! Welcome to my Patreon on how to draw and paint figurative and narrative paintings. I hope you enjoy checking out all of the resources that I’ve put together for you.

What's on this Patreon?
On this page, you’re going to find tutorials for portraiture, figurative and narrative drawing and painting using classical painting techniques. In addition to that, you’re going to find lots of commentary about how I approach a work of art from beginning to the end, and materials that I use.

If you subscribe, you’ll get access to all of my videos on how to get started with drawing for a complex narrative painting, composition, materials lists, how to approach an underpainting, and special Q and A sessions for patrons. You’re also joining a supportive community where you can post your work and get interactive feedback from me and from your fellow patrons.

I’ll also be adding new videos and new material all the time, so that you can follow along and learn all of the good things that I’ve learned over the past 20 years of painting fine art. I am also asked fairly often on my social media channels whether I offer one on one instruction. Using Patreon allows me to do just that – offer a limited number one-on-one student mentorships (please see the mentorship "tiers").

So I hope you’ll consider joining in on the fun and really diving into learning drawing and painting with me. Thanks so much for your support!

IMPORTANT - Please watch this short video on how Patreon works. It explains how your patronage supports artists and creatives and what to expect when it comes to membership tiers.

Who is this guy?
If we haven’t met, my name is Bryan Larsen, and I’m a classical (in technique) painter specializing in realism and works of art that celebrate science, technology, education, optimism, innovation, family, and beauty. When I’m not painting, I am passionate about getting out on my mountain bike up on the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains and the red-rock sandstone of beautiful Southern Utah. As you can probably tell, I spend a lot of time reading up on my favorite science and space topics and science fiction (the good stuff and the bad). I also love to travel - especially road-tripping - with my family - my wife Sara, and our three kids. I am primarily self-taught and have some insight about what it's like to start out on this journey on your own. It's tough, but with practice you can always "make progress."

How did I get started?
I started Bryan Larsen Fine Art in 1998 with my first painting called Heroes - a largish painting with a depiction of a father and son watching a Saturn 5 rocket launch. That kind of feeling - awe-inspiring, humbling, optimistic, reverent, loving, and exciting - is what I’m after in each of my paintings since then. After my first painting sold, I knew that being an artist where I could create a vision of the world I wanted to see would be the calling of a lifetime. Through ups and downs, I have never wanted to do anything else for a living. I hope you'll join in the fun of learning more about how I draw and paint.

Goals

When I reach 100  patrons... wow! I will have a drawing for a fun original rocketscape to thank all of the folks who are supporting me with their pledges.
