About Come Play With Me
We’re run by Tony (Hatch Records, Music:Leeds) with Scott (Clue Records) running the label activities so have released a record or two between us over the years!
Releases so far inc. The Wedding Present, Marsicans, Harkin, Fizzy Blood, Team Picture, Dead Naked Hippies, Talkboy, Her Name Is Calla & more. These have been via our 7” singles club, or as limited edition picture discs, with our first hitting No. 1 in the 7" UK Vinyl Singles Chart!
Artists we have worked with have gone on to play at major festivals including Leeds and Reading Festival, Download, The Great Escape, Radio One’s Big Weekend and receive airplay and acclaim from Radio 1, BBC 6Music, Radio X, DIY, NME and more.
We do much more though including:
- releasing music digitally
- supporting artists with recording / PR campaigns / funding applications / signposting
- regular live events
- Inclusivity activities including HerFest (all-dayers for female-identifying artists), LGBTQ+ events, ‘The Next Generation’ which provides support for artists under 25 & much more
- workshops to educate and create awareness in the North of the UK including ‘What Musicians Want’ & industry feedback sessions at conferences across the UK.
In late 2018 we started publishing our bi-monthly magazine ‘Come Play With’ which goes behind the scenes and under the skin of all things music. Each issue is made up of key features on artists and the industry, coupled with bold imagery from inspirational and upcoming contributors. Key interviews and covers so far have included Tom Walker, Nina Nesbitt, Slowthai, Sleaford Mods, Queen Zee, White Lies, Self Esteem to name a few.
There are different ways to support us and the artists we work with as a Patron - receiving the music digitally, the magazines, the vinyl / merch, even getting FREE GUEST LIST for all of our events!
The CPWM Community
- How do we select the artists we work with?
We do regular call-outs, inviting artists to send us their music. Following submissions, we gather a group of independent judges to form a selection panel. This means we have a fair approach to who is selected for the release, basing it on talent and merit! Recent judges have included Phil Taggart (BBC Radio 1), Adele Slater (Coda Music for Courtney Barnett, Dream Wife etc.), Roisin O’Connor (The Independent), Abbie McCarthy (BBC Radio 1) + many more.
- What events do you run?
We host gigs, working with local and international talent to showcase cross-genre artists. These have taken place in Leeds, London, Manchester and other key cities. We’ve also hosted events including ‘What Musicians Want’ (engaging with the local music scene to understand and support each other to develop), ‘Women In Music’ (advice and discussions with those who have succeeded in the music industry), 'LGBTQ The Music’ (a discussion and support network for the LGBTQ+ community in music) + more.
All of this has lead to a large group of genuinely engaged, supportive artists working together and fiercely supporting regional music and the CPWM label.
We can do so much more
We have continued thanks to support from record buyers, subscribers and some funders (Arts Council, PRS Foudnation and Youth Music) that believe in us. But for every brilliant artist we work with, there are another 9/10 who are similarly talented that we just don’t have the resources to help – it hurts to not be able to help them.
With more contributors we could do so much more, including;
- developing more artists and their audiences
- more Diversity/Inclusivity activities
- more digital and physical music releases
Anyone signing up is hugely appreciated - we're truly humbled by the support we’ve had so far and would love to be able to continue the work we’re doing!
