About Calliope Pettis

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Patreon!

I'm Calliope Pettis and ever since I can remember, I've made sense of the world around me through Music and Theatrical endeavors. My interests range from song writing, to movement, to improvisation and storytelling. I'm learning to trust the process of discovering what it is I have to offer as an artist, and I'm humbled to have you here as my journey unfolds!

So, what is PATREON?
Patreon is a crowd funding platform that operates on the old school concept of patronage. It provides artists a place to share exclusive work & creative updates with their fans, in exchange for a monthly pledge. In this way, it's one of the most sustainable options for crowd-funded artists to earn a predictable monthly income (whether or not they go on tour or get that grant etc.).

Being a CROWD FUNDED ARTIST means...
There aren't any executive producers telling artists how to create art that will sell. Instead of art as an industry, crowd-funded artists have the opportunity to continue creating works of art that connect to their audience. Basically, the focus shifts from SELLING ART to MAKING MORE ART, and (for me) this artistic freedom comes with a responsibility to make art that is honest and vulnerable, while striving to execute each idea skillfully.

Why is making MORE ART so important?!
Before an artist makes a masterpiece, a lot of time gets spent on "trial and error." I like to think of this as the "research" phase- full of failures and prototypes that never see the light of day... We don't want to make bad art, but sometimes, "done" is better than the unattainable perfect; and the more you create, the more chances there are you'll create something worth sharing.

After all, that's what we're here to celebrate; the beautiful mess we make as humans trying to navigate life, and the courage it takes to share each imperfect stride forward.

How do I know?
For the past couple of years I've been supporting other artists on this platform and studying the way they create value for their Patrons. I appreciate the way Patreon helps artists connect with fans who want a sneak peek into their creative process, and especially the way it provides ACCOUNTABILITY for the artists to live up to the creative goals they've set for themselves.
I am particularly interested in this aspect of Patreon... I can let myself down over and over again, but when I've made a promise to someone else (in this case, to deliver content in a timely fashion) I always follow through.

This is HOW it works...

Patrons sign up at varying "tier" levels and like any other subscription service, the more you give the more you get! You can sign up at any tier level you wish and you will never be charged more than your monthly pledge amount. As time goes on and we get more familiar with each other, I will add more Tiers and Benefits that align with the kinds of things YOU value as a Patron!

In addition to creating accountability for myself and my creative goals...
Patreon will allow me to allocate funds toward HIRING OTHER ARTISTS AND COLLABORATORS! When I recorded "Learning to Love," I learned that no music worth doing can be done on my own. I have such grand visions, and if I want to bring them life, I know I'm going to have to learn how to ask for help from people who have strengths that are different from my own.

So, here we go!

My first 25 patrons will receive a hand written "thank you" note in the mail! (Think, postcard prints of an original work of art, with my best cursive on the back.)
