About Carly O'Neil

Welcome to my Patreon Page!
For hundreds of years, Patrons have been responsible for the beauty that surrounds us today! Many famous buildings, churches, schools, artworks of a variety of mediums, and great inventions have been a result of patronage.
In this never-before-seen, never standing still moment in history, you can now continue this fine history of patronage with a few clicks, and even be rewarded for doing so, and become a part of the artistic experience, therefore process, itself!

About the Artist
Art is my soul.

As a result, art is also my sole source of income.

This is partially manifested through my nation-wide modeling, makeup artistry, commercial photography. I give back to the arts when teaching- passing along the legacy of knowledge that the artists I was surrounded by my whole life, and facilitating others' artistic goals.

The move back to The Fine Art Photographer, and incorporating that aspect into my identity as a Commercial Artist.

I feel more prepared and ambitious in view of my Fine Art work, settling on a handful of series' to carry me through the year, a new way of structuring my shooting and editing schedules, as well as turning to Cinema to capture- what has been an unintentional journey away from, my self-portraiture.
I will be re-branding the commercial photography, editing my massive backlog that is my pending Fine Art Portfolios, continue growing in my use of Cinema as a Fine Art form,
I will be wrapping up my works until this point, and sending off Gallery proposals, and curating shows, spending more time with my Creative Writing- moving more towards the
Prose and Essay form, if not experimenting a bit with Fiction, as I complete and publish several Books that have been in-process over these years.....

I began writing, as I remember it- and at least as far as I have record of it, in 1995.

To stare at that number and see 20 years is pretty woah- and right on course for my upcoming Book plans.

I couldn't even begin to tell you the time and effort it will take to sort through the sporadic online blog posts- my only current public form of the work, in a partially organized then forsaken manner and curate them according to the lovely end result I have planned for them all.

It's time. I've been an author longer than I have been most things in this life, and the full return to the written word in conjunction with the many shots cataloged these past years, safely kept for that special day- has arrived.

My camera has been another familiar for about half that time, but now over a decade... I've captured a variety of fine art series, editorial stories, and many tens of thousands of images, as a kind of catalog to be conjoined with my writing in a handful of books, essays- all centered around the photo-narrative.

So basically I've been building my archive, stuffing it full of stories, and thoughts, and experiences....I've become my own kind of National Geographic, having spent my entire life as a bit of an explorer, following my curiosity.
I hope you join me on this journey.

About the Fine Art Filmmaking
As I looked back at my photography- after gaining a bit of distance from myself The Artist as I conceived and grew my Commercial identity, and prepared in 2015 for the return of the aforementioned artistic identity, I considered my goals both in image capture but also in where my limitations were confining my creative expression, as opposed to usual effect of setting one free by cozy space to create within.

I realized, in a rather epiphanic moment- that the dynamic quality I felt was missing from my photography was, in fact, due to the fact that I was trying to speak a sentence within a word. Cinema was the sentence; photography was the word. Overall I rather enjoy this limitation that photography brings- the open-ended-ness of just one word.

What I was now wanting to express was more complicated- more complex, and something rooted deep within me and tied very closely to my identity as a dancer and musician. Something only movement and pacing and sudden stops could satisfy. It even illustrated the causation of my boredom with self-portraiture as a photographer. I wanted to speak sentences- not words. Words were easy. Paragraphs carefully constructed of perfected words was where the challenge lay. And where I plan to follow.

The (Work)Life of an Artist List
To ‘make it’ as an artist these are the things I need to do on a regular basis, and hunting-and-pecking for my commercial clients, or model bookings to fund my art world is not only a time-suck, but debilitating to the cohesion needed in assembling submissions for publications, art reps, exhibitions, etc
Also on that long list:
Editing
Shooting
Exhibitions
Gallery/Rep contact
Promotional Material Design/Printing
Website Building/Updating
