Hi! I’m Casey, probably more well known to you as Casey the Canadian Lesbrarian. I’ve been running my queer Canadian book blog since 2012. On Casey the Canadian Lesbrarian you can find reviews of Canadian and/or Indigenous LGBTQ2IA+ books, news about queer Canadian authors, and themed lists like queer women’s Halloween reads, best bisexual women’s literature, five queer women of colour you should read, and lots more! I also write about bookish stuff for Book Riot and Autostraddle, where I recently launched Ask Your Friendly Neighbourhood Lesbrarian, a book advice column where readers write in for help finding their next favourite LGBTQ2IA+ books. I spend lots of time talking about books on Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, and Litsy too!

As you can probably tell, I’m super passionate about books, and LGBTQ2IA+ (and Canadian) books especially. It is sincerely one of my life’s joys matching books and people! In fact, I’m so keen on books I went back to school to become a librarian, a program that I’m halfway through right now.

I would LOVE to be able to keep up more with my blog and in fact increase the number of reviews and special content like lists and news on there. My goal after hitting the $25 a month mark is to have at least eight posts (reviews, lists, and news articles) up on the blog a month. On my website there’s also a list of queer Canadian lit resources like authors, other book blogs, bookstores, presses, etc. that is in dire need of being updated. Lastly, I have a dream about starting a queer book blog with a fellow queer book blogger, so that’s a future plan for 2017. Can you believe that there is no queer book podcast running right now? I’d love to fix that.

It would mean to much to me to have a bit of support so I could really dedicate time to the blog—like a real job!—instead of cramming in time for writing in the wee hours between school and part-time work. That’s where YOU come in! What would you get out of it, you ask?

The three things I’m most excited about offering are:

  • A guaranteed spot to be interviewed in my upcoming "Interview with a Queer Reader" series for patrons of all levels. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while, and it seemed like a great place to start by talking to my patrons (via email, Skype, or in person if you’re in Vancouver!) about their experiences as LGBTQ2IA+ readers. We could talk about stuff like the first queer book you read, which books you’ve read that have really reflected your experiences, which queer book you want to read that doesn’t exist yet, and more!
  • Monthly entries in a draw to win a free queer book for patrons contributing $3 or more a month (2 entries for folks giving $9 or more). I get a ton of free queer books for review, so what better thing to do with them than to pass them on to other readers? Every month I’ll draw a name and give that person a choice from about 5-7 books and I’ll mail the book to them. (Canada and US!). This reward will start when I hit the $25 a month mark, so I have enough to cover shipping costs.
  • Monthly entries in a draw to have a postcard with a personalized book recommendation mailed to you. (Canada and the US as well, and other countries if anyone is interested!). I love giving book recommendations, and I thought it’d be fun to get one in the mail. Real mail is the best! I’ll ask you a few questions about what you like to read via email/Skype and then send you the recommendation.

Check out the pledge levels on the right for more details about the rewards!

NEW!! (A few people have asked me about making one-time donations. Patreon isn't set up for that, although their website does suggest you can make a monthly pledge and then just cancel after one month. I know that isn't a great option. I also have a Paypal account and could do email money transfers with my email address stepaniukcasey [at] gmail.com. Let me know if you're interested in that and thanks again for your interest!)

Thanks so much for your support of Casey the Canadian Lesbrarian—whether that’s through Patreon or by reading, sharing, liking, and commenting on my posts. It's so, so appreciated! And thanks for being excited about Canadian and/or Indigenous LGBTQ2IA+ books and authors!

Goals
$75 – reached! per month
Well I met my minimum goal of $50, which means this Patreon thing is here to stay! At $75 a month, I'll do a big clean-up of my Queer Canadian Links page to make it an updated and comprehensive resource for you queer CanLit lovers and I'll also be able to pay to get my own domain name!
