Being an author in today's gig economy is not easy. You have to eat in order to write. You have to pay for ink cartridges, and paper, and internet, and your overdue library fines. Oh, and sometimes an occasional shot of whiskey, not to mention copious amounts of caffeine. Without loyal patrons, any artist struggles, fails, and fails, and maybe -- MAYBE -- hits the success lottery. My series Echo Falls is the first of the projects I wish to complete. Wilderness Rim, Echo Falls, Book One is already available But, the next in the series, needs a bit of a boost so I can focus on that instead of the freelance projects (read corporate communications and marketing) that normally pays my way in this world. I have a pile of short stories that need homes. All of this takes time and effort, that without the support I could get here, will just sit there while I write web content for yet another business. However, Patreon is a way to do it the way artists used to do it -- with benefactors and sponsors. This will help me make time and give purpose. No longer will stories be flung into the ether willy-nilly. There will be plans. There will be goals. Here, with you, I have a mission, a purpose, oh, and food in my belly. And biscuits for the puppies.
Tiers
Writer's Best Friend
$1 or more per month 1 patron
Every dollar helps. Truly. And comes with much gratitude, respect, and puppy kisses. In addition to getting all the inside scoop here of all the weird spec fic and beyond I'm up to here, my writer's best friend(s) will send you a monthly ::die from the cute:: photo of them pushing me to write. They know the more words their human mum writes, the more biscuits they get.
Fiver for Five
$5 or more per month 0 patrons
You'll get the former level reward, plus I'll post a top-five literature-driven blog post here. Maybe the top five books you need to read this year, or the top five secret crushes in literature... you get the picture.  There may be more five-focused goodies, too.  Just have to give me five...;)
10 minutes in the studio
$10 or more per month 0 patrons
Besides write, I do little visual art projects.

Supporters at this tier will get all the former rewards, plus exclusive log-in to a 10 minute video of what I'm working on not only in writing, but in my newly set-up art studio.

15 minute cafe
$15 or more per month 0 of 20 patrons
In addition to all the former level rewards, I've got 15 minutes to chat with you via hangouts about anything -- stories, writing, art, urban farming, etc. Once a week, we'll meet and chat. Bring your own coffee (tea, whiskey, whatever).
Writer's Quarterback
$25 or more per month 0 patrons
Without a quarterback the team doesn't have an offense. You're my offense at this level, and in addition to the former level rewards, I'll write a flash story for your eyes only.
Book Food
$50 or more per month 0 patrons
For this tier reward, supporters will receive all of the former levels plus I'll take a stab at my other well-known skill -- cooking. I'll concoct a recipe for a meal from a literary foundation. Green Egss & Ham is a thing, but not like Dr. Seuss made it out to be. Or how about chowder from Moby Dick?  I'll take photos, make it, give it a reveiw and you'll have a monthly meal to try yourself.
Gold Standard
$100 or more per month 0 of 15 patrons
In addition to all the former levels, supporters at this level will receive a thank-you in the next Echo Falls series book.  As well you will receive a copy of mass paperback once published.
Goals
$1 of $1,500 per month
Right now, I have a steady earnings of $1,500 a month doing freelance. It's not much, but it takes up 40-plus hours a week and then some. I love my clients, but they and everyone else knows I love doing my fiction work more. I'm sitting on so many short stories and even more manuscripts on top of the Echo-Falls series that I'd love to see launched into the world.
