About Jessica Bellamy

Introduction
Designing from the Margins (DFTM) is a web series on Instagram and Youtube that discusses cultural and systemic design issues using video, animated graphics, and other visual explainers. Here I explore how all forms of design--whether it's graphic design, web design, urban design, and so on--impact marginalized and vulnerable populations. I also spotlight contributors of color who have given so much to design history and theory.

About Me: The Show Creator

Hi!  My name is Jessica Bellamy and I am a motion infographics designer from Louisville, Kentucky. I have been telling visual stories using data and personal narratives for most of my creative career. As a Design Justice advocate, I feel it's my duty to create works that inspire reconciliation and healing. DFTM is a series that does that by facilitating an energetic and education experience that breaks down issues that exist at the intersection of design and people of color. To see more of my work please visit my artist site or my  agency's site . Also feel free to follow me on  Instagram @jessicabellamy.design.

The History and Mission
Designing from the Margins is a personal social journalism project that started out as an audio blog in 2016. In January of 2018, it evolved into an Instagram series and then later I shared that content on Youtube. Using my information design skills I created a platform to analyze design culture, spotlighted designers of colors, and discuss power dynamics in design. It is this designer's opinion that design is a powerful tool that we should use consciously and responsibly. It is important for all creatives to be aware of the fact that design shapes perceptions, creates or defines narratives, and designates credibility and authority. That is why I am driven to keep this project alive.

Why Patreon Now?
Due to the overwhelmingly positive response from my followers on Instagram, I have decided to seek funding opportunities so that I can continue this work. I am interested in taking on new stories and diving deeper into the Black Aesthetic. There may even be a documentary in the future. I'm dreaming big! Please support this work and follow #DFTMMonday on Instagram :)

Goals
$18.26 of $350 per month
When I reach $350 per month, I will produce one monthly DFTM video that is 60 seconds or longer and 2-3 supplementary Instagram posts (videos or images) that have to do with the monthly concept. The videos will also be shared on Youtube in a single video.
