Deep Baltic is back and will have regular updates on all kinds of fascinating Baltic subjects throughout the autumn, but we wanted to remind you that if you like what we do, you can help us do it better by sponsoring us via Patreon.

We’ve recently changed the sponsorship options from a fixed amount monthly to per article, which should be a more efficient way for us to manage the funds we have coming in – and means you can see more clearly what your commitment gets.

Why should you sponsor us? Well, we think it’s fair to say that this is the only site where you’re likely to find all in one place a detailed analysis of the Latvian National Communists of the 1950s, an appreciation of the wonders of Lithuanian birch juice and a lovingly curated playlist of music from the best contemporary and classic Estonian films. That’s herehere and here, by the way – and those are just three examples of the more than 150 pieces we’ve published so far. If you want coverage of the Baltic states that is more informed, insightful and imaginative than you’ll find in the mainstream media, this is the place to come.

We’d really like to be able to pay our contributors, commission pieces about things we think our readers would be interested in, and arrange translations of interesting articles from the local press, but all of those things need money. It doesn’t need to be much, and you wouldn’t be charged often – we would only charge for longer features, and we’re envisaging no more than 2-3 of them a month. We have many thousands of unique visitors every month, and if just a small percentage of those sponsored us for $1 an article, we could easily cover our running costs.

It will soon also be possible to donate directly using PayPal, but this is our preferred method because it is a recurring payment and that makes planning a bit easier for us. So if you value Deep Baltic and what we do, please consider helping us out.

Aitäh! Paldies! Ačiū! Thank you!
