For the past 25 years I’ve become an accomplished multitasker, working as a photographer, pastor, writer, speaker, coach, and counselor. And those are only my paying jobs. I was able to make this work in my thirties and forties but something happened a few years ago when I turned fifty.

I started wanting to channel those divergent streams into one river: writing. This felt simultaneously exciting and incredibly daunting. For a while, the daunting won out and I tried to dismiss the endless parade of words and ideas which marched through my head. Why would I choose to pursue such a competitive career which offered no real hope of adequate compensation? (Hadn't I already been there, done that with pastoring and photography?)

In 2013, I felt a surge of confidence. I knew I had both wisdom and a unique perspective, so I began blogging in earnest and submitted a few articles to Relevant Magazine and Her.meneutics, Christianity Today’s site for women writers. Crazy thing, they said yes. And they’ve continued to say yes (as have other publications). Now two years later, I get out of bed, commute 20 steps to my lovely, little office and write for most of my days.

I sit here at this solitary desk day after day in the hope of offering wisdom and encouragement. I write about how my faith intersects with culture and everyday life. I write about how to have whole and healthy relationships, how to lead and parent well, and sometimes, how to make outrageous GF/DF desserts and other goodies. I’m also working on two books: one on marriage (currently under contract with David C. Cook for this one!) and one on how to become holy and why that changes everything. God willing, I will keep making photographs until the day I die.

I feel engaged and love what I’m doing. I've gotten terrific feedback from editors and readers. It's all good–with one exception. Few of these publications pay and when they do, it tends to be in the order of $75 per piece (at my current pace, this translates to less than minimum wage). Since we (my husband and I) are typically not the main attraction at the conferences and workshops where we speak, we seldom get paid for these gigs either.

My husband is a teacher and a worship leader, we live in an expensive part of the country, and two of our three sons are in college. I don’t need to earn lots of money, but I do need to earn some. And that’s where you come in.

If you have any desire to partner with me in my creative endeavors, you can become one of my patrons. Patreon is a new, crowd funding organization much like Kickstarter but rather than money going to one big project like a movie or single book, it’s an ongoing system of support which allows artists and creators to devote our time and energy to actually creating content.

The way Patreon works is that you commit to support me on a monthly basis. You decide how much you would like to give and simply enter that amount in the box at the top left. If I can earn enough to cover some of our monthly expenses, I'll be able to focus on writing and making beautiful photographs.

You can set a cap on your monthly tips and you can opt out at any time. I’m imagining this as a two year venture until I can make enough contacts and become known enough to find my way.

Thank you for considering this. If you are interested but not familiar with my work, I suggest you visit my site (www.dorothygreco.com) and read a few articles, browse my photography work, make sure you can sign off on what I’m doing.

As a tangible thanks, I’ll offer free photo downloads (check out some samples here) and signed copies of one of those books. You can read more about specific rewards in the boxes below. Thank you so much for considering this. Your generosity will make a huge difference for our entire family.
