ABOUT DR. DEBRA SOH

Dr. Debra Soh is a neuroscientist who specializes in gender, sex, and sexual orientation.

Her writing has appeared in Harper’s Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, the Globe and Mail, Scientific American, New York Magazine, Men’s Health, CBC News, Real Clear Politics, Quillette, and many other publications. Prior to writing The End of Gender, she was a weekly columnist and resident sex scientist for Playboy.com.

As a journalist, Debra writes about the science and politics of human sexuality, free speech, and censorship in academia. She was profiled in the New York Times as one of “The Renegades of the Intellectual Dark Web,” and in Penthouse Magazine as the December 2018 cover story and “Penthouse Crush.” She recently appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher, the Joe Rogan Experience twice, and Dose of Dr. Drew.

Debra has been interviewed and/or received media coverage in outlets including the BBC, the Washington Post, Discover Magazine, NPR’s The Hidden Brain and The Pulse, Dan Savage’s Savage Lovecast, USA Today, Psychology Today, Cosmopolitan, GQ Italy, Esquire, National Review, One Smart Person and Greg Gutfeld, The Luke Thomas Show, We the Internet, the Kinsey Institute’s Facts of Love series, and many more.

As an academic, Debra’s research on paraphilias (unusual sexual interests) and hypersexuality was funded by the Canadian government through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. Her work has been published in scientific journals including the Archives of Sexual Behavior and Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

In 2018, Debra co-hosted and co-produced the first ten episodes of the political podcast, Wrongspeak.

In 2019, she testified as an expert witness in Grabher v. Nova Scotia Registrar of Motor Vehicles in the Nova Scotia Supreme Court.
