About Dr Lava

Hey folks. Well, if you're visiting this page, you're likely already familiar with my work -- documentation of Lost Pokemon history. I buy old Japanese magazines and books, then pay to have them translated them into English. Each translation is supplemented with lots of outside sources from other books, various leaks, and my own commentary so we dissect the source material with everything we've learned in the decades since these interviews were published. I also commission artists to recreate Lost Pokemon designs, and pay to have old artwork restored and archived, like the 1997 Carddass card set.

All this historical documentation is published on my website and on YouTube -- although some articles I only publish here on Patreon. By subscribing for $5 a month, you'll have access to unpublished translations, articles, and various other odds-and-ends I think are worth preserving. But more importantly, you'll be helping me continue searching out and documenting Lost Pokemon history -- with enough support, I can keep on doing this kind of work into the long-term, and afford to fund bigger projects. Currently, these are the Patreon-exclusive articles and videos:

1. Translation from the Pokedex book, all nine Game Freak developers discuss Gen 1's development (1996)
2. Translation from the Pokedex book, Oak and Bill's lectures (1996)
3. Tajiri and Ishihara interview translation about Game Freak and Pokemon's early days (2000)
4. Sugimori and Masuda discuss the Tao Trio's development, taken from two Japanese magazines (2011-2012)
5. Two Morimoto video interview translations about Mew's development (2019)
6. Sugimori and Masuda discuss Diamond & Pearl's development (2007)
7. Ken Sugimori interview about his art style (2014)
8. Pokemon Colosseum interview and concept art (2004)
9. Masuda talks Game Freak's early days (2019)
10. Tajiri discusses Gen 1 and 2's development (1997)

More translations are currently in progress, including a 12 page Sugimori and Masuda interview from 2009 about HGSS, and a couple others I don't wanna spoil just yet. Pledging more than $5 doesn't provide any extra goodies, but the option for $10 or $20 is available if you just really believe in and wanna support my documentation of Lost Pokemon history. I hope you'll enjoy being a member of what's essentially a Pokemon history club, and of course feel free to share this stuff with your friends. But I do ask you don't share it online -- posting this stuff on Reddit, 4chan, using it in YouTube videos -- that kinda thing. About half the articles published here will eventually be made publicly and freely available on my website or in YouTube videos several months later, although some won't.

Cheers
Dr Lava
