About Dr. Martha; Experiments & Adventure

Do you feel lost when it comes to the sciency bits of homeschooling? Do you feel unmotivated to do science experiments with your kids because they're too complicated, messy, or require too many expensive materials? Do you want to nurture kids' innate love of science with robust, inquiry-based experiments that are easy to do at home or on the go?

Science doesn't have to be expensive, complicated, or unreachable. Anyone can do science and I'm here to show you how with monthly science experiments for kids ages 5-10(ish).

Each month you'll get exclusive access to one awesome science experiment for kids, complete with instructions, lab note pages for recording measurements and observations, and thinking questions to encourage kids to dig deeper into the why and how.

After you complete your experiment, come back to Patreon and join the discussion with others in our community of clever young scientists. Share results and talk about what you learned and what questions came up—because science always leads to more questions than answers! One of the most important parts of doing science is talking with other scientists; sharing results, thinking through any differences, and developing new experiments to keep testing what we observe.

Are you ready to get started?

Let's do science!

Who is Dr. Martha?
Hi! I'm Dr. Martha Growdon. I am a geologist with a Ph.D. in metamorphic petrology and a MS in structural geology—I study the stories of rocks. Before I began designing accessible, approachable science experiments for kids, I was an Assistant Professor of Geology in upstate New York and worked for the oil and gas industry analyzing rock samples under the microscope.

Why Science for Young Kids?
Young kids have an innate scientific sense. They are curious about the world around them and constantly test it. The world is, relatively, new to them and they make basic observations freely, unclouded by interpretations that come with experience. When students reach the college level, we have to retrain them to be child-like scientists: to make basic observations without jumping to conclusions (interpretations). This is really hard for many students and it can result in them giving up on science. If we can, instead, nurture and encourage that native scientific sense in young kids through adolescence and into adulthood, we can create a new generation of science-minded, curious people!
