Gold Level

per Blog post.
When you select this you can then also go in and set a monthly maximum. For example, if you set that at $3, this tier becomes just $3 per month. Any amount earns commenting privileges on my blog and (if you request it) Facebook; and I'll briefly answer any questions you send me (by email, Facebook Messenger, or wherever else). Just mention your Gold status to me to claim those benefits!

First Level Extraordinarium

per Blog post.
After six months of support at this level, as a one-time gift, you can claim one free video chat with me of up to one hour. During which you can consult me on anything in my wheelhouse. I will also put your town (or the nearest major city to it) on my list of possible future visits for a pubmeet (but alas I can't guarantee I can ever get there).

Second Level Extraordinarium

per Blog post.
After six months of support at this level I'll do the same for the level one reward, plus I'll give you three of my books (your choice of any still in print) with my signature and a personalized inscription. A one-time gift. (However to claim that benefit if you reside outside the U.S. you will have to cover international postage, which can be steep. For U.S. residents shipping is free.)

About Richard Carrier, Ph.D.

Hello! I'm Richard Carrier, Ph.D., an independent scholar producing work of use to the wider public. I'm a published philosopher and historian of antiquity, specializing in contemporary philosophy of naturalism and in Greco-Roman philosophy, science, and religion, including the origins of Christianity. I write on many subjects, ranging from social issues to modern philosophy and ancient history, especially the philosophy of naturalism and the historicity of Jesus. I also publish advice and resources for critical thinking and countering Christian apologetics. I also teach online and have written lots of books. For more about me and my work see

Here's how you can help. And what you get out of it...

I've escaped the interdepartmental politics and tanking fortunes of the formal academy to write independently and pursue my uses as an educator, activist, historian, and philosopher. Through your patronage you will help support and inspire me to produce excellent and original content in many subjects, both in books and online. With your pledges you will be investing in and rewarding this content production and benefiting directly and indirectly by making it available, for consultation, as well as reference and dissemination. You can make use of my research, and enjoy learning from it as well. I will in turn benefit from having more financial security.

What you get:

  • You get to post comments on my blog. And they won't go to moderation like others do. They'll publish immediately! As soon as I get your email address on my blog's white-list. Note that few others are allowed to post comments on my blog.
  • You get to comment on my Facebook posts. If you want that privilege. Just send me a Facebook Friend request and remind me you're a Patreon patron. Only my Facebook Friends can post comments on my Facebook.
  • You get my time. If you email or message me in any medium with a question, just remind me you're a Patreon patron, and I'll give you a thoughtful answer as soon as I can.
  • You help make my work accessible to the public. You will find many of my articles useful to cite or point people to, or as resources that help you and your allies argue better with your intellectual opponents everywhere. And I couldn't produce so much work each month without growing patron support.

And all that, for just a few dollars a month. I will not collect pledges for just any blog post. I will collect only for substantive blog posts of original content in some area of intellectual or factual knowledge and concern. Posts announcing classes or events, or making brief observations, and the like, won't be counted. So you will only be funding the big stuff. Check out my most recent posts (below) for some examples. It's almost always just four posts per month. And never more than six. Regardless, when you pledge here, on your patron page you will have the option of setting maximums per month that won't be exceeded.

Big pledges can earn yet more perks (see right margin). But small pledges can mean a lot when a lot of patrons join in. So if you think my work is worthwhile, please do recommend this page to other potential patrons you may know. Thank you!
$600 - reached! per Blog post.
If that level of support holds for three consecutive months, I'll pay two sitting professors with a relevant Ph.D. to engage me in debating the historicity of Jesus in a published book that will be edited by an agreed moderator. And I'll do all I can to get that book published or distributed by the Society of Biblical Literature.
