I'm Ed Turner, and I like to make weird little story games. I would like you to play them. Or maybe just read them. Or have them, and enjoy the having of them. That's fine too... games don't need to be played to have value. Heaven knows I consume more RPGs than I actually play, by an order of magnitude.

Anyway. I'm a professional game designer; I've done freelancing for Hats and Mongooses alike, and on my own time I wrote and Kickstarted what I suspect to be the world's first story game based on the works of Oscar Wilde. But what brings me the most joy are small games that take one cool idea and run with it as far as it'll go. Have you ever wanted to be a bunch of sentient vermin crawling through humanity's trash? Have you ever wanted to fight a dragon not as some hero but as yourself? Have you ever wanted to fight a Wizard Duel using the spare dice you've got kicking around? If you're anything like me, the answer is "yes, absolutely, every day."

To that end, I'm making small games games that explore weird concepts. You want in?

What Do You Get?

You get the games I make. Everything that I make for this Patreon, and access to all of the things I already made for this Patreon.

Here's how it works. I'm committed to making one game per month for this Patreon campaign. If you're a patron, you get access to the game as soon as it's ready to be seen; you might even get early access sneak peeks of what's coming down the pipe, or other stuff I'm working on. Hell, you might might even get the occasional post of me rambling about whatever's on my mind (probably game-related) although I'll probably keep that to a minimum.

Games I make will be Patreon-exclusive for at least a month; after that things are a little up the air. Mostly they'll go up on DriveThruRPG, although every so often  I'd like to release a game for free, because free games are good for the world. Heck, I might even develop an idea further if it's got legs as something more than a quick game... and if I do that, patrons will also gain access to whatever the "developed" version of the game looks like. And you'll get a say in what gets developed, what gets released, and even what gets made. That's pretty cool.

At the moment, there are no rewards tiers. You think my stuff is worth a dollar? Thanks. You think it's worth more? Thanks to you too. Think it's worth more but honestly you only have a dollar to spend right now? I've been there, dogg. Thanks to you too.

What Games Have Been Made Through This Patreon?

Before I officially launched this Patreon, I did it in secret for three months... both to get my workflow in order and to ensure that, when I did finally launch it to the world, there was a small backlog of games. You know, to prove my worth? So, yeah. Here's that secret backlog. It's going to grow over time (and I'll delete this paragraph).

  • Lonely Astronaut. Somewhere out in space, a lonely astronaut journeys from planet to planet, never staying long enough to call anywhere home. A slow, contemplative game based on what I think No Man's Sky is probably like. This game is free to everybody!
  • Melissa, the Gorgon Who Makes Bad Decisions. Melissa, unlike her showboating cousin Medusa, has a quiet life working at as an Ancient Greek barista at the Ancient Greek Starbucks. But she makes terrible life decisions. As the snakes in her hair, can you be her guide to the world of baseline competence? A gonzo game of ridiculous consequences.
  • SWORD FORGERS! You are a bunch of GNOMES who make the BEST FRIKKIN' SWORDS and you know they're the BEST FRIKKIN' SWORDS because whenever an adventurer gets horribly killed while using your sword, you sneak it back to the forge and make it WAY BETTER. A ridiculous sword-making game.
  • Useful Evidence. A story game designed to emulate the beats of Clue (the movie), using the components of Clue (the board game). You've been invited to a weird mansion, the bodies are stacking up, and you probably killed some of them!
What's Coming Up?

The next games will depend, of course, on the vagaries of fate and what snatches my interest. Here's the very approximate list of what I intend to be working on in upcoming months... probably.

  • September: Reclaimed: A Map-Taking Game. A story telling game about the post-human world, in which you deface a map of your hometown as you describe the inevitable march of nature as it takes back what once was its own.
  • October: Flintlock. Ye died at sea. Happens. But then Poseidon snatched yer body, breathed air of life back into ye, and gave ye a shiny new weapon to fight sea monsters with. A pirate-themed game of epic action sequences.
  • November: Two Old Spies Sitting On a Bench in the Rain. You were told to come here, so you did. Share stories of your old exploits as you wait for the park to clear out. There's no rush, because once the park is clear, we'll find out if one if you is here as an assassin. A grim game of Le Carré-inspired spycraft.
  • Parts beyond: Who knows?

YES BUT WHO AM I?
I'm a game designer. I've worked on a bunch of Fate-based games including Dresden Files Accelerated and Fate of Cthulhu. I did work on Acute Paranoia. I Kickstarted By the Author of Lady Windermere's Fan, which is as far as I am aware the only RPG based on the plays of Oscar Wilde.

I've got a website, EddlyT.com, which will provide more information about all of those (especially Windermere, because I'm real proud of that one). I live in Fresno with my wife (who has a real grown-up job with health insurance and everything) and my kid (who just started Transitional Kindergarten, freeing up a ton of time for me to write things without a four-year-old crawling on me), and two rats (who accomplish very little except chewing on things and looking adorable).
