I write poems to heal.

Love, connection, grief and loss, -- those little moments of beauty that we so easily miss when we aren't watching for them, purpose and meaning -- my poems are deeply honest, gentle, and full of insight. I write poems for myself, and for you. I've needed a lot of poetry, these last few years. I've had a lot to deal with.

My first collection of poems grew out of grief over my mom's death, and the slow healing I found after she was gone. singing my mother down: poems of love, grief, and renewal came out in 2016. Thank you to every single person who reached out to tell me the book touched them.

Since then, I've come to realize that my favorite poems all aim towards one thing: renewal. I bear witness to our amazing resilience, the capacity for renewal that we all have. I don't shy away from grief and loss; fully experiencing that pain, and living through it, is a necessary part of the journey towards knowing just how strong, capable, and worthy of love we all are. Without acknowledging and embracing our darkness, we will never fully appreciate our light.

My second book is for anyone who wants to save themselves. Whether you know how to do it or not, whether you've already done it or whether you know you have to -- the book is all about how to put yourself back together after (and during) hard times. labyrinth: poems from the path to wholeness will be released on March 21, 2019.

Publishing a book is easier than it used to be, but it still takes a lot of time and energy to do well. It takes even more time & energy to get the word out about it. And all the feedback I've gotten tells me that the poems I write are exactly what people need to read. I want nothing more than to get these poems into the hands of the people who need to read them.

That's where you come in. In the years to come, I'll keep right on writing poems. I'll share some of them with you in my newsletter, intravenous poems, and on instagram & twitter. About once a year, I'll put together collections of poems, and share them with you and the world. The only time you'll be charged is when I publish a new book, with your name in the acknowledgements.

For too long, healing poetry has been hard to find.

Help me change that.

love,
Elyria

PS - if you aren't able to support my work financially right now, I'd still love to share some of my poems with you -- and I'd love to hear what you think of them! Join my newsletter to get intravenous poems delivered irregularly to your inbox.

When we are 33 patrons strong, I'll overcome my abject terror of reading poems aloud and host a special discord chat... just for you... where I'll read aloud any poems that you ask me to!

Er, if you want me to read other people's poems aloud, that's fine. It's just my own that I have these hangups about. But, according to Tolkien, 33 is the time when hobbits come of age... and adulting is rarely easy!
