About Experience Daliona
We pride ourselves in our community-funded approach, and have built our entire program from the sidewalk up, with zero outside loans or corporate investments. Experience Daliona operates through your support here on Patreon, support from participants at our Sidewalk Science Center and Star Party nights, and funding through our growing program offerings. By supporting us, you're investing directly into local communities every single week.
Our current programs:
Sidewalk Science Center: our flagship program. We travel to public parks 3 to 5 days a week and host family-friendly science experiments and telescope session that engage kids, teens, students, and adults of all ages with a range of familiar concepts. We've prepared physics, optics, magnetism, biology, and other experiments designed specifically for hands-on learning.
Our goal moving forward is to hire paid educators who will operate on a rotation of local locations each month, including a yearly non-local trip, such as the week Sidewalk Science Center spent in Denver, Colorado, back in October 2019.
Second Light: our free telescope rental program. We collect new and used telescopes, refurbish as needed, and loan them out to families and individuals who would like to explore the night from their own home, or wherever they travel! Loans are free for two weeks and can be extended if there is not a waiting list for that telescope.
Educational Kits: we develop science kits that build off experiments seen at SSC to reinforce and encourage expanded learning. As of November 2020, we have Force Module 1, Optics Module 1, and Astronomy Module 1. Each series will have several modules that build off previous concepts.
The New ERA Foundation (not yet operating): the New Environmental Recovery Action Foundation, inspired in part by the Galactic Ecology Survey seen in Alex's books, will engage with issues surrounding environmental justice, and fund and organize programs in conservation that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, poaching, overfishing, waste dumping, and other factors of environmental deterioration.
The New ERA Foundation will also form local branches and organizations to promote community clean-ups, recycling initiatives, and public education alongside Sidewalk Science Center that increase awareness and improve the quality of life within communities.
This is our outlook as we begin growing. Supporting us on Patreon will give you access to many updates before we publicly promote them, give you a chance to stay involved with crowdsourcing ideas for SSC and other content we produce, and be a part of an effort to create an exciting and inspiring future.
