About FAILSPACE

Hello FAILSPACE friends, family, lovers,

We are six people working cooperatively. We are Angel Acuña, Nora Alami, Lena Engelstein, Rebecca Fitton, Pablo Muñoz, Andrew Pester. We meet weekly on Tuesday mornings to produce, design, write, chit chat, feel our feels, bring good good stuff to you, co-create, imagine, conspire. We invest time and labor in between meetings to meet the needs of our ongoing work.

In our meetings we seek to uphold our mission: to support multiple platforms for artists to grow their teaching and performance practices. We generate and practice cooperative leadership strategies, cultivate community, and build solidarity with our people. Our people are artists interested in using the framework of failure to disrupt and undo systems of oppression in our local performing arts community. We move at the speed of trust to make iterative and fractural change.

In our meetings we agree to the following:
Listen from the inside out. Listen from the bottom up. Trust your gut.
W.A.I.T - Why Am I Talking?
Make Space. Make Space. (For you listening / for your speaking)
Self care and community care-pay attention to what your body needs
Building, not selling-when you speak, converse, don't pitch
Value the process as much as, if not more than, you value the outcomes
Be freaky with yourself, be freaky with your ideas
Be free with yourself, be free with your ideas

FAILSPACE intends to become a worker's cooperative. Supporting our cooperative via Patreon is the best way to commit to recycling resources and creating a sustainable stream of resources. The Steering Committee is committed to building financial structures that support transparency, the distribution of wealth, and investment back into our community.

FAILSPACE’s current operating budget can be found here.

FAILSPACE prioritizes maintaining integrity to our intentions over maintaining our financial sources. FAILSPACE recognizes the possibilities and power of using alternative currencies. We exchange resources for partnerships, services, energetic alignment, and bodywork. We all have something to offer.

Our intention
FAILSPACE intends to support multiple platforms for artists to grow their teaching and performance practices. FAILSPACE seeks to generate and practice cooperative leadership strategies, cultivate community, and build solidarity with our people. Our people are artists interested in using the framework of failure to disrupt and undo systems of oppression in our local performing arts community. Our work is guided by these words:

Goals
$24.86 of $1,000 per month
Resource Stream for Black Indigenous Leadership
The money invested into the FAILSPACE Patreon will be collected and equally distributed with a stream supporting a seventh Steering Committee Member and future shifts in FAILSPACE's leadership model towards centering Black Indigenous leadership. The first $1,000 in this stream directly funds the seventh Steering Committee Member and additional resources invested into future leadership transitions. As we are shifting our internal leadership model, we are committed to compensating equitably, disrupting gatekeeping structures, and enacting full transparency in our adaptations.

A transparent accounting of this fund can be found on our website.
