...But a heck of an edit :P

I felt like I was doing mental gymnastics when cutting this one!  Thanks for the support allowing me to take a few days full tome to focus on making these two separate stories into a cohesive single episode.  I'm happy with how it came together.

Jonathon Solum "A bare bones shoot..."....Blowing Snow! Put it this way sir schteevie, your "bare bones" is 1,000 times better than my full hardest attempt at what someone might vaguely call a production piece. It was nice to see something that reminded me of when I first started watching your videos, when you only had *gasp* one or two cameras! Sometimes it's nice to go back to your roots. But don't get me wrong, I do love the full production shoots though, but these are great also!

Bill Sedgwick What happened to that great little aircraft was a bummer and I hope the idiot who did it paid big time. That said, it's really interesting to see the inner workings of the plane and hear the care and trouble that is taken to keep planes flying. And the iPhone, week that's ridiculous!

Holy crap there are 300 of you!

We just hit 300 supporters!  Thanks so much to each and every one of you!  And David is #300.  Although, the chargers are about to go through for August, so by the time you see this post we might be down to ~298, as sometimes a few long time supporters drop off after deciding they've supported long enough (which is completely understandable - and I totally appreciate any and all support given).

But the cool thing is we're just over a year in since launching here on Patreon, and the trend has been constant growth!

We're about to hit the 4th milestone goal!  What is crazy though, is that with this campaign PLUS the sponsors, we're actually closer to operating the productions at the 5th/6th goal level: more than 1/4 of the episodes are "full productions", and we're often traveling to cover epic awesome stuff!

NOTE: I'm about to send the latest batch of Flight Suit patches out for the $5+ supporters - please let me know if you didn't get yours - US customs sometimes snags them as I sneak them via regular mail (the paper work to declare each one as a "gift" is prohibitive, but most make it though).

Thanks again,

Steve

A sad story; hopefully a happy ending...

This is a short one, but as those of you that have been following the channel for a while know, this airplane is some what of a central character in the "Flight Chops" evolution.  Hopefully this is the start to a longer series about bringing the Super Cub back to life.

There is a ton of awesome stuff coming thanks directly to the support here.  The recent mountain flying trip yielded a ton of great footage, and so did the Oshksoh trip - I was actually secretly relieved to have this short one to fit in between the more epic things we've produced lately.

I look forward to sharing more solid episodes, and am able to put in the editing time thanks in large part to your being on board with this campaign!  I am REALLY happy to be able to give back to you guys via the give-aways from sponsors - thanks to Bose coming on board the monthly prize is now up to $750 and I have an A20 headset worth over $1000 to give away this season!  Please enter the contests so you can get a chance to win.  It amounts to being on my mailing list from which a news letter will be sent about once per month.  I have your email addresses here on Patreon, but I don't dare add you to any sort of mailing list with out consent - As it stands, when you get an email from me, I send them one at a time by manually getting your address from the account profile here.

Thanks again for sticking around as we build this "Flight Chops" thing!

Steve.

Jamie Gamble Really enjoy your tailwheel work. I've got the tailwheel endorsement in a Citabria, but have never solo'd. Something truly special about having a grass circuit to yourself like that, to hone your skills. Definitely inspired me to get more tw time this season. Thanks!!

It is so awesome that we broke $1K today! I got the email notification while I was on set shooting a promo for a new sponsor! The support from you guys here on Patreon accounts for a significant portion of our budgets, but it is great to have sponsors stepping in now as well!

Flight Chops Oh, and all the $5+ Patrons should have their flight suit patches with in a couple weeks of joining - if you didn't get one, please let me know - Technically, anything that is not paper, is supposed to be declared by filling out forms to indicate that they are gifts - However I sneak them through as regular mail because the time / energy spent on that process every time I send one is prohibitive. Most get through as standard mail, but I fear that some times US customs snags them.

Thanks again for the support making this one! - it was an epic production! More IFR videos to come - but editing this was exhausting; so for the next few I'll be back in "tail wheel land", editing footage that I shot over the summer :)

Flight Chops Oh, and I forgot to add my standard note: Videos go up on YouTube every 2nd Friday, so this one has been live for over a week; however, I'm posting here on Patreon the 2nd and 16th of each month to keep the paid posts to a maximum of two... But as the lag is now over a week, I may skip a Patreon post or upload a 3rd one this month to "reset the lag" - please be sure to edit your monthly max so there are no surprises.

My Brain still hurts after this lesson :)

I am happy to share my struggles getting back into IFR - My big take away: If you start IFR training - stick with it or you'll need to essentially start over as I am having to do after a year off from training. NOTE: Videos go up on YouTube every 2nd Friday, so this one has been live for over a week; however, I'm posting here on Patreon the 2nd and 16th of each month to keep the paid posts to a maximum of two... I may need to skip one or post 3 in a month occasionally, to reduce the YouTube/Patreon post lag which is growing... hmmm.

Flight Chops I really appreciate this feedback - I avoided making IFR videos for ages because I knew how hard it was going to be to make the convey the complexity, and make the experience immersive and engaging - Thanks for confirming that we succeeded!

Kurt Pennuto Nice work, I could watch this all day! Dennis is such a cool cucumber up there, what a joy to have that kind of mentor. How much prep work do you and your crew put in before you even get off the ground? Do you plan out your shots or is it free flowing and all the work is in the editing? Thanks again, I'm glad I found you and can help support your awesome adventure! KYFCS!

February 18, 2015 02:45:02 · Reply

Flight Chops Thanks Kurt! The crew and I do a fair bit of prep as far as setting the scenes, rigging cameras (and lighting if needed) and imagining what angles we'll need "on the fly" - so the guys aren't too surprised by the action they need to cover; but then ultimately, whatever happens, happens, and we try to capture it is naturally as we can. And in this case it was a production delay that held up our departure and pushed us into dark for flight 2, so yeah, it's far from seamless :)

Thanks for helping make a solid production!

My team and I worked really hard to make this epic two part series, and the support has been greatly appreciated! As per usual, I need to remind everyone that there is a lag between YouTube and Patreon simply because the videos go live on YouTube every second Friday, but here on Patreon I'm keeping the "paid posts" to a monthly maximum of two, and have decided to post on the 2nd and 16th of each month to keep it simple.

Flight Chops Haha - sort of... I mean in terms of pure fun the Extra 300 doesn't compromise... but the joke Jared made with me was the the plane is so purpose built for acro that it has no other useful function - Like its a PIA to even ferry it around because it has such small fuel tanks, and minimal space for baggage - it's really made for flying air shows and that's about it.

This is a big one! It was an epic experience and an equally epic production - HUGE thanks for all the support that made it possible, and I'm happy to announce ForeFlight as a supporter with this one! Also - by now every $5+ supporter from 2014 should have received a flight suit patch - if you haven't, please contact me via PM here of email at: [email protected] Thanks again for the support!

I want to take a second to thank everyone that's joined this crazy Patreon campaign! Your support has been huge, allowing the Flight Chops project to grow! The success of the campaign has made it easy to pitch to sponsors, and I am so proud to announce we have the first big one on board! The latest video is the first of many with additional support coming from ForeFlight! We still have a ways to go to be able to consistently cover 100% of "Full production" costs, but we're getting there! This one just went live on YouTube, and will be posted here on Patreon on the 16th as not to exceed two "paid posts" per month.

A couple dozen patches ready to go for the latest $5+ supporters! This get's me caught up (for now :) NOTE: I ran out of flat colour cards, and could only find funky polka dot ones to use this time, so enjoy that :) Anyway, by this time next week, y'all should have your patches. As for other "rewards" please let me know if anyone has any questions; I've been doing lots of google / skype hang outs with those that request them, there are random posts below with exclusive content links and attached files (not the best system, but not sure how else to distribute those). AND please note that I did send EVERY ONE a personal message via the Patreon system with in a day or two upon their joining, but I've received reports that not all were received..? So, I am going back through the patron list and emailing each of you one by one with a thanks and a link to a very special exclusive video. Thanks again for the support! Steve
