Who We Are:
Inspired by Black feminist pioneer OlaRonke Akinmowo and The Free Black Women's Library based in Brooklyn, NY, The Free Black Women's Library - Los Angeles is a free, feminist pop-up library and book swap with Black women writers at the center.

We believe the revolution involves reading!

Our Vision:
Our vision is to unite and build safe anti-racist, anti-sexist communities across Los Angeles who are committed to love, liberation, and literacy for all.

How We Work:
We provide a unique, free, and accessible space for community members of all races, ages, and gender identities to engage and trade books by Black women authors for one in our library.

We practice sustainable methods for gaining knowledge within our community that include community-led workshops, panel discussions, and literary events highlighting local,
Black women writers.

How You Can Help:

We are 100% donation based.

If you would like to help us launch our first pop-up library event this June, please consider supporting the following:

~ Becoming a beloved patron today!
~ Donating to our GoFundMe to assist in funding future events + library maintenance/supplies
~ Purchasing a book from our Amazon book wishlist or our SkyLightsBookstore wishlist to contribute to our growing collection (link available on our facebook page)
~ Mailing your new or gently used books written by Black women to The Free Black Women's Library - L.A. 5350 Wilshire Blvd P.O. Box #36618 Los Angeles, CA 90036
~ Donation drop-boxes will be made available in
March 2019. Please stay tuned for
our list of local Los Angeles partners.

We fully understand the capitalist system we live under may make it difficult to support in this way. We appreciate any and all support of The Free Black Women’s Library - Los Angeles and would love if you could share this post or any of our social media account pages with your online community to help spread the word.

In name of love, liberation, and literacy, we thank you.

We are excited and hopeful!

With 50 patrons, we will have the resources to:

1. Compensate Black women writers, healers, educators, and artists for their time and labor offered for our panel discussions, workshops, and readings.

2. Ensure our events have basic refreshments (water, tea, snacks) for our library visitors, always free of charge.

3. Cover library maintenance expenses, fees, transportation costs, children's workshop supplies costs, and promotional material costs.
