Hi, I'm Nicole Frost of Frost Yarn (@frostyarn) and I'm here to disrupt the proprietary, secretive and highly cliquey world of independent yarn producers. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I've been producing 60 second tutorials on how to clean/dye/card/spin and knit for over 3 years now (see for yourself by checking out #frostyarndyetutorial #frostyarnbatttutorial and #frostyarnspinningtutorial).

I want to have a show that is a cross between Bingeing with Babish and Mythbusters centered on this weird little offshoot of the DIY craft movement known as hand dyed and hand spun yarn.

Here's a taste of what your hard earned cash is going to help crowd fund into existence:
-A full scale dye atlas of both mx/dx and acid reactive dye
-difference in the dye uptake on superwash vs non superwash fiber
-every speckle technique put to the test
-how to kettle dye in stages
-vinegar vs citric acid
-how to thicken your dyes and stencil a sock blank
-a real lightfasness test of the dye manufacturers claims
-exactly how much dye *can* you force in before it starts to bleed
-how to dye bamboo and cotton
-"breed test" aka dyeing merino/bfl/polwarth/Targhee and seeing the difference in the dye uptake.
-corespinning with different cores
-vinegar vs citric acid as a mordant
-kool aid vs Wilton's food coloring vs natural dyes
-everything I know about art yarn spinning

And more! Every month I'm going to crowd source what you want to know about and see demonstrated. All the batts and yarn created for the show will be gifted back to you, my patrons, as well as dye atlases and instruction booklets.

There's a lot of misinformation, bad science, and a weird shroud of secrecy around how the (yarn) sausage is made. I think that's an outdated business model that excludes more than it includes. When I started out in 2008, full of enthusiasm and utterly clueless, I encountered a lot of slammed doors in my face. I made minimum wage, part time, and couldn't afford a $250 workshop or $500 dye class. I sold school books in the middle of the semester and ugly knitted things to afford dye and fiber. I scoured Ravelry dyer forums, dye manufacturer manuals, read endless blog posts and nearly lit my dad's kitchen on fire teaching myself the mechanics of dyeing. Ten years into it, I've got some shit to say and things to teach. If you're into the concept of open source information, if you want to be part of nurturing and growing the next generation of fiber artists, please do join me. I promise to give you 100% of what I have learned, with some rad perks on the side.

Fiber Sample
$5 or more per month 41 of 50 patrons
You will receive a fiber sample package (approximately 1 oz of luxury top, blending extras, or exotic fibers every three months from me.

If you're international, It'll be every six months so I can stuff the maximum amount in the package and you get as much bang for your buck as possible.

Mini skein
$10 or more per month 23 of 50 patrons
A patreon colorway will be created each month and 3 mini skeins will be sent out quarterly (postage costs are high, $3.70 so I'd rather give you more fiber quarterly than a sad little scrap of nothing monthly).
Monthly Stalker Roving Club
$22.75 or more per month 10 patrons (sold out!)
Each Month, I will stalk your feed and dye you up a 3-4 oz braid of luxury fiber. It could be organic polwarth/mulberry silk, it could be superwash Targhee, Panda top, etc.
Stalker Full Size Skein Club
$28.50 or more per month 6 of 10 patrons
Each Month, I will stalk your feed and dye you up a 3-4 oz full size skein of luxury fiber. It could be organic polwarth/mulberry silk, it could be superwash Targhee, Panda top, etc. Please convo me to let me know what weight of yarn you prefer.
Stalker Sock Blank Club
$33 or more per month 4 of 10 patrons
Each Month, I will stalk your feed and dye you up a sock blank stenciled with something fucking cool.  Super vivid nebulas, Unicorns dancing past palm trees, David Bowie on a rainbow (a Rain-Bowie). You get the drift.
Quarterly Batt Club (3 coordinating batts shipped every 3 months)
$33.95 or more per month 14 of 24 patrons
A full size (3-4 oz) luxury batt will be created monthly, and shipped quarterly.  All 3 will be themed - pink sand beaches, nebulas, flowers of the south pacific, meridian sunsets, meditations on patina, holographic rainbows are some of my ideas for 2018.  That way you can make a larger project.

Why quarterly?  The price of shipping recently went up - a single batt shipped in the u.s. is $3.75 in postage, not including the cost of the label, cellophane batt envelope or shipping sleeve. Patreon takes 5% of your pledge amount and the payment processing fees are another 4%.  Add in shipping and that's over $10 of the pledge amount monthly.  Shipping these quarterly allows me to give you more fiber and curate a larger package with the saved shipping costs.

You will also get to vote on the quarterly theme: I'll be emailing all the patrons in that reward level for that quarter a selection of options and, via democratic process, the most popular one will be created.

Stalker Batt Club Membership
$40 or more per month 14 of 15 patrons
A 3  to 4-ounce luxury fiber batt carded just for you based on your preferences in your feed
Goals
$1,766 of $5,000 per month
This is my best estimate of the fiber/materials/prep cost to shoot and edit a series of dye tutorials, including:
-who has the best red, the best black, and the best turquoise dye on the market
-what is the difference in diabetic between Merino, bfl, polworth, Targhee etcetera
-how to Kettle dye in stages to prevent muddy patches
-exactly how much dye can you force in before it starts to bleed or leak
-vinegar versus citric acid, which produces the brightest and most wash fast color value
-how to thicken dye and stencil sock blanks
-how to dye cotton and bamboo yarn
