About Gary Sutton

Welcome to the world of whales!

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the ocean and, in particular, whales and dolphins. Growing up in landlocked Ontario, Canada, my opportunity to experience wild whales was limited to documentaries and books and I took full advantage of that! So much so in school that I earned the nickname "dolphin boy" and in the yearbook I had my face photoshopped onto a cartoon character riding.... yes, you guessed it, a dolphin.

Eventually, books and films couldn't satisfy my curiosity and I knew I had to be closer to them. As much as I love all whales and dolphins, the killer whale (orca) had a grip on me and working with them is something I knew I had to pursue.

So off to the west coast I went! After moving to Vancouver is 2007, I was able to find my way right into the world of whales becoming a naturalist on a whale watching boat. Since then I have had the privilege to become a captain, photographer and whale researcher. I would like to share these experiences with you, help you get to know the animals better, how to protect them, share my photography and what the day to day life is like working with these animals.

Thank you so much for your support and I look forward to sharing this crazy whale journey I'm on with you guys!
