My name is Gabriela Penelopé Carolus.

I am a social scientist and a budding poet.

I write about the terms and ideas that 'we', people, take for granted as the ordinary and intimate. I hope that my readers will continue this journey with me to reveal the challenges of living and working across different continents as a millennial.

The poems and short stories are ways to address topics related to womanhood, Christianity and living life as a professional woman of Colour.

I aim to write a collection of short stories constructed as a dialogue between an ailing mother and her daughter challenged by multiple chronic diseases that are social taboos among Coloured communities. These stories will highlight intergenerational illness narratives, discussions about faith healing, medical healing and practical lessons learnt on dealing with fatal car accidents, disability, aneurysms, lung failure, breast cancer, endometriosis and depression.
