Many of you know me by my work. I am the author of numerous books on the Northern Tradition, Devotional Work, Polytheism, and the Runes. I also maintain a regular blog at http://krasskova.wordpress.com. While Heathen, I work across traditions because the restoration of polytheisms is a matter of collective restoration, not just one tradition at one time. This is my passion; it’s my purpose; it’s my sacred work.

That work has taken me in many different directions: I began as a priest, became a shaman, a vitki, a diviner (Gods, I never, ever thought I’d be graced with the skill to divine. it was one of the most unexpected of gifts from the Gods, second only to, two years ago, suddenly being given the gift of painting!), writer, artist, activist, academic, and, yes, I will admit, trouble-maker. Sometimes for the savor, you need to stir the pot. Like me or hate me, you know that with me there is no BS. I will not be moved from my stance on an issue: not by intimidation, threats, pleas. I will not say what i think people want to hear. To the best of my ability, I am committed to speaking truth about my experiences with the Gods, the development of our theologies, the necessity of all aspects of the Work, and the fractures and issues facing polytheisms today. I may not be delicate about it — that is not part of my job or sadly, my nature, even when I might like it to be — but I do the best I can with what I have been given, and with what I have been permitted to develop. And I do my best to aid those who come to me as well.

What you may not know is that I suffer from severe chronic pain due to my first career as a ballet dancer. Migraines, severe, debilitating back pain, ongoing mobility issues, including on some days difficulty walking, constant exhaustion, and a lovely diagnosis (yes i am being sarcastic) of fibro-myalgia. It’s not an easy thing asking for support or even help. I am proud and moreover I belong to Odin and He’s trained me to be pretty self-reliant and strong willed over the years. It is, however, a very difficult thing to do this Work without community support.

An awful lot of people have asked me, sometimes over and over, what they can do to help. Well, this is something really concrete you can do. Even $1 a month would help — I mean, think about it: if everyone who finds my work useful pledged $1 a month, I’ll bet my main goal would be met right there and then some! Community is a powerful thing. In traditional societies, it wasn’t just the shaman or the priest doing the work: it was a community effort. Sometimes that meant leading rituals, sometimes it meant cooking a meal to feed the shaman. The idea of nourishing the community’s relationship with the Gods was something everyone had a part in.

Our community isn’t there yet, but it could be. We can support our religious professionals. I do. At least I try to do so wherever I am able and now I am asking the same. I’m going to keep plugging away at my Work no matter what, but it would be nice to do so knowing I had the support of an amazing community at my back, and it would be nice to do so without the stress and exhaustion that keep me from serving that community to my fullest.

I want to be able to do more for my Gods and more for our communities. I want you to be able to do more for Them too.

Take a look at some of my current and most recent projects:

  • Organized the Polytheist Day of Protest and Remembrance, July 31, 2015. (In Progress Now. Go here for more info).
  • Organized the first pan-polytheist, international conference in July 2014: the Polytheist Leadership Conference.
  • Organized the first New York Regional Diviner’s Conference, November 28, 2015.
  • Started a publishing imprint, Sanngetall press
  • Founded the first Polytheistic, theological journal: Walking the Worlds, published bi-annually.
  • I have sponsored multiple shrines at www.northernpaganism.org, shrines like virtual roadside chapels where people can light virtual candles and leave prayers for their Gods — and they do, in the hundreds.
  • I am an active diviner in the community, working ceaselessly to help our people discover and maintain right relationship with their Gods and ancestors.
  • As a priest and ritual specialist, I maintain a full roster of clients, offering spiritual direction and ritual help.
  • I have an ongoing prayer card project to bring more devotional images of our many, many Gods into the world and into the hands of those who want to honor Them, and see Their cultus restored. To do this, I work with both artists and devotees, and have thus far brought over eighty devotional cards into being. I offer them at cost, and sometimes for free.
  • I have been pushed harder and harder into Classics and Theology, and my last few years have been spent gaining the academic training that will allow me to serve both my Gods and the many communities in which i work so much better.
  • And in between all of this, I’ve written a TON of books. Check them out here.

And all of this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Thank you for your support.

Goals
$99 of $200 per month
Meeting this goal would guarantee that I can keep creating at least one prayer card per month. Generally, given that costs have risen over the past year, it takes $450 to create one prayer card. While I often receive some donations and sponsorship toward specific cards, it’s rarely enough to cover the whole thing and for each card, I easily spend $200 or more out of pocket. This is an important project. We are giving space back to our Gods. Each image is a small, portable shrine. We are giving our Gods more windows in the world through which They can act. It’s part of re-sacralizing the world, or rather opening our eyes to the sacred that never left. The more I am able to raise here, the more I can contribute to that process.
