About

Hi, and welcome to Game Assist, our little space where we review and critique games from a liberation perspective.

Gaming has, for most of its history, been a profession with scarce representation of marginalised identities. Broadly, we see very few characters that do fit these descriptions - and if they turn up, they’re represented in heavily stereotypical and often offensive ways. This also applies overwhelmingly to the gaming industry’s representation of physical disabilities and mental illness. Game production, especially within larger organisations, is often dominated by heterosexual white men, something we want to actively talk about.

Games also face an incredibly wide range of accessibility issues, and workers within the gaming industry are often overworked, underpaid, and without union rights. We have seen improvements in recent years, especially within the indie and experimental genres, but still have a very long way to go as an industry.

Supporting us helps maintain this project in earnest. The money you provide will go towards making sure that we can cut away at ads online, and keep delivering top-tier content.
