I'm Gary A. Braunbeck.  I've been writing fiction in the fields of horror, fantasy, science fiction, western, mystery, and, yes, even the occasional romance since the late 1970s.  My work the past three decades has primarily been in the horror/dark fantasy field and has been honored with 7 Bram Stoker Awards as well as a World Fantasy Award nomination.  I am the creator of the critically-acclaimed Cedar Hill Series that includes the novels In Silents Graves, Keepers, and Mr. Hands. I have twice had the honor of being an instructor at the Odyssey Fantasy Writer's Workshop and am a former instructor in Seton Hill University's MFA program in Writing Popular Fiction.

My writing has been translated into French, Russian, Italian, Czech, Spanish, and Japanese editions and has appeared in publications such as Cemetery Dance, Weirdbook, Nightmare Magazine, Twilight Zone's NIGHT CRY, Postscripts, and The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction.  To date, I've sold and published roughly 300 short stories, 10 novels, and 10 short-story collections.

So Why Am I On Patreon?
A few years back, I was diagnosed with a chronic pain condition called complex regional pain syndrome/reflex sympathetic dystrophy (CRPS/RSD) – specifically, in my left leg.  At first, with the help of a spinal stimulator implant, I was able to continue working outside the home at various manual labor jobs, but as the condition worsened I found that the spinal implant and pain medication I was on could both only go so far in relieving the pain, which can become fairly agonizing after too many hours on my feet.  (The past 18 months have led my doctor to suspect that it might slowly spreading into my right leg as well as my left shoulder.)  When it became apparent that I could no longer work at any job that required me to be on my feet for more than 2 hours at a time, I had little choice but to apply for disability.  While the monthly disability payments cover some of the medical and household bills, it's not enough to help my wife Lucy with major expenses (mortgage, utilities, gas for the car, etc.)  so ... here I am on Patreon.

So now it's time to talk about what rewards will come your way if you decide to sponsor me!

What You'll Receive
First of all, you'll have my deepest gratitude for your faith and support -- and regardless of which tier of sponsorship you choose, everyone gets something.

There will be short stories (several of them newly-revised versions of hard-to-find tales previously published in now-defunct magazines, and never having been reprinted in any of my collections); there will be nonfiction pieces, many of them having to do with the craft of writing; there will be reviews and critical analysis of works published in the fields of imaginative fiction, as well as film and the occasional television series; there will be audio recordings of my stories, read by myself (that is to say I will be reading them, not that I will be reading them alone ... in my sparse, cold room ... alone ... so very alone ....); there will be writing advice for those who need it, and I will be offering critiques of stories up to 3,000 words; in addition to everything previously listed, I will be offering autographed (and inscribed if you want) copies of some of my books.

I sincerely hope that you'll consider sponsoring me.  I promise you that if you do, you'll have not only my undying gratitude but a lot of dark and spooky fun, as well.

$1 or more per month
Each week you'll find something different here:  it might be a poem, it might be a short-short, it might be a photograph from a past horror or fantasy convention that comes with a funny story behind it, it might be something else altogether -- like the tier title says, it's anyone's guess.  But I'll make sure it's something fun.
A Cedar Hill Ally

In addition to whatever's in the Anyone's Guess area, you'll also receive up to 3,000 words of fiction every month, and you know that at least 1/3 of it's going to set in Cedar Hill.
