Our journey together here starts with what I hope will be an inspiring invitation: to find and express your true voice through mindful singing.

For those of you who are new on this journey with me, my name is Girish and I am an internationally touring world music artist, teacher, and author. My wife and I co-founded and co-own an independent record label, Mondolaya, LLC that produces world music albums and videos, and I have written a book that teaches the art of mindful singing based on my nearly twenty years of experience, and incorporating the wisdom of sages and neuroscientists.

Recent developments in neuroscience, thousands of years of wisdom and my own experience all agree, you can change your life by finding your voice. And I want to help you to do this!

I am reaching out to you here on Patreon as an answer to the very true music industry adage, “Tour or Die.” While I love touring and performing my music live and will continue to do so, I also need time away from touring to continue to create new music and instructional offerings, including videos and books. Although we musicians and writers do not literally die when not touring, it is a challenge to keep the lights on in our family run record label while creating new offerings, as the vast majority of our income comes from touring.

This is where you come in. In this age of free music everywhere for all, who pays the musicians? I pay all of the musicians who work with me a fair wage, and support my family with money I earn mostly from touring. A percentage of my fans recognize that actually purchasing my music from me at my live events and via distribution channels such as retail stores, itunes and Amazon is the way to keep the music coming.

For those who don’t have the funds to purchase concert tickets, but would like to, we are starting a non-profit foundation to assist them, as we would like everyone to have access to the live music that feeds our souls.

For those who just don’t understand the connection of paying for music so that the artist can continue to offer music, you, as a supporting patron will be a co-creator of a sustainable music model and set an example in our music community.

A little background on my offerings:
I began my music career as a jazz drummer, spent five years as a monk in a Hindu monastery, returned to music as a session tabla player on more than 100 world music albums, and for the past 12 years I have written, recorded, and performed my own original music and taught Sanskrit mantras and chanting in music festivals and yoga studios all over the world. My six albums have received critical acclaim from O, The Oprah Magazine, Yoga Journal, and The Guardian, among others. My book, "Music and Mantras" (Enliven/Simon and Schuster, http://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Music-and-Ma... continues my mission to share the art of meditation through music and mantra with the world.

In my kirtan concerts I am accompanied by my amazing band, and I invite my audience to participate by singing along, call and response chanting, and dancing. I sing traditional Sanskrit mantras with a modern, funky, yet deeply devotional twist.

On my national and international tours, I offer Kirtan Concerts, Live Music and Yoga classes, Chant Workshops, Music and Mantra Workshops, and Chant Camp Retreats.

A little background on how all of this can benefit you:
By becoming a patron, you will have exclusive access to patron only offerings, including singing, chanting, harmonium, and table lessons, personalized for you, a private YouTube channel with videos made only for patrons, and patron only audio recordings and articles.

Even if up to this point in your life you’ve been someone who would feel quite shy about opening your mouth to sing a song (unless, of course, you happened to be alone in your car or in your shower), our first bold move together will be to tell our inner Simon Cowell to take a big flying leap so that we can feel free to sing—simply for the joy of it, without judgment—to express, heal, and celebrate our unique and beautiful selves. And/or if you would like to explore other instruments, such as harmonium and tabla, you will have access to my teachings in those areas, as well as personalized mantra support for all interested in a mantra practice.

By working with me you will develop an awakened and powerful expression of your own voice through the practice of mindful singing, and you will have a solid foundation upon which we can begin our exploration of mantra and chanting, including a rich and inspiring array of mantra practices, many of which will become powerful allies for you as you embrace the yoga of chanting to cultivate greater health, happiness, peace, love, and wisdom.

You will experience what I have experienced in my life, that the connection with your true voice that you’ve awakened through mindful singing will enliven and energize your life experiences in amazing and powerful ways.

What others have to say about my offerings:

"In this beautiful book (Music and Mantras), Girish shares his long and wonderful relationship and experiences blending the practice of Chanting and Music." (Krishna Das)

"Long before popular music was industrialized, folk music in America was focused, not on the individual, but on community — people gathering together in living rooms, front porches, and town squares to play music of their ancestors and, more importantly, to sing in one voice. Girish shows how this tradition is an ancient one and why ritual is so important for nurturing wellness, not just of the individual but also among neighbors and friends. His own personal journey as a former jazz musician itself connects the dots between the West and East. Singing is as human as breathing, and this book tells us why." (Mark Guarino, contributing music writer, The Guardian)

"Let the masterful Girish lead you on a journey of spiritual unfoldment through the vibrations of mantra. The practices in Music and Mantras will transform and uplift you; listen and follow." (Yogi Cameron, bestselling author, yoga & Ayurveda master)

“I believe the book you are holding (Music and Mantras)will change the world. In the years to come the inclusion of mantra practice and mindful singing into everything from yoga teacher training curricula to therapeutic treatment plans will be able to rest upon the foundation Girish has laid with this book.” (Rolf Gates, teacher and bestselling author of Meditations from the Mat and Meditations on Intention and Being)

"Girish has provided a pathway to an integration of personal awareness, expanded understanding, developed skill, and the experience of oneness with our Source. He invites the singer into a discipline which offers opportunities for growth, healing, and peace of mind. That wonderful mystery that while we each do our own work we are one can be seen in Girish’s sharing and experienced as we join our voice with his." (Daniel Comstock, director of the Center for Attitudinal Healing & the Arts, Missoula, MT)

“Girish has written a beautiful book with specific tools and information on this deep and life-changing practice. This book is a support to anyone finding their voice in the world.” (Mariam Gates, ME.d, author Good Night Yoga and Morning Yoga)

“Girish is one of the rare, few integrators of the power of traditional chanting with exquisite contemporary musical artistry. For years I’ve found his chanting to be profoundly moving. And now with his book, Music and Mantras, you too can be enchanted and transformed through Girish’s enlightened words and voice. This book will illuminate your mind and enhance your life with the power of mantra and chanting.” (Dan Leven, director of Leven Institute for Expressive Movement and faculty member at Kripalu Center)

“Girish writes and sings from a nonlinear place. He journeys deep into a cave and finds the Source, the Sound, which comes up through his Heart. His book will help and inspire so many... as when you are blessed to hear his voice.” (Gurmukh, bestselling author and pioneering teacher of Kundalini Yoga)

Music & Mantras is a beautiful contribution to all of us who seek greater harmony in our lives. It artfully combines ancient chanting with modern applications to heal our bodies and free our souls.” (Gay Hendricks, Ph.D., author of The Big Leap and Conscious Loving)

"Music and Mantras is a must read for all those looking to deepen their awareness of Bhakti Yoga. Girish dives into the many facets of voice, sacred pronunciation and meanings to create a very rewarding and thorough experience for readers." (Sridhar Silberfein, producer/creator of Bhaktifest, producer of “River of Love")

Upcoming offerings:

* A new album releasing in September 2016 that is completely different from my previous releases and offers a deeper experience in the meditative benefits of mindful singing and mantra.

* A Girish Music 501c3 non-profit foundation that will give everyone who wants to participate in this healing musical journey through live events the opportunity to do so, regardless of income. We know that the cost of live music events can be too steep for a lot of people who want and deserve to experience live music and mantras but do not have the funds to do so. A live event costs us and our co-producers a lot to produce, and the ticket prices reflect the cost of production. Through our new Girish Music Foundation, we can provide live events to everyone who wants to participate, and even bring our live events to schools and prisons, while still paying a fair wage to all who contribute their talents.

* A new album releasing in May 2017 of live concert recordings. We are just starting this process, and you will have the opportunity to sing with me on this album!

* Videos! We’ve had so many requests for videos, and on the “Tour or Die” model we haven’t yet found the time and the funds to fulfill these requests. Our goal is to release as many videos as we can of our top hits plus new songs that we plan to release in the coming months.
