I'm Kyle Goodwin and I've been playing with glass for over 20 years, and have been in business first as Hunter Glass and Design and now Goodwin Glassworks for about 10 years.
I jumped into the world of art as business and I've created etched and carved glass for homes, business/corporate and art galleries, ranging from entry doors, partition walls, waterfalls, shower doors, decorative art pieces, awards and pretty much any location glass can be installed using hand drawn custom designs and logos.
I also create custom lighting to make my carved images come to life and I not only use standard LED light strips but I have my own techniques in which I can make custom coloring to fit the mood of the piece.
Along with my etchings and carvings I had an idea of creating glass waves using the same glass I use to etch on....people told me it couldn't be done, but, because I don't pay attention to the "no people"....I have my glass waves all over the world...probably thousands of them!  I've created awards for numerous companies/groups/organizations, and they decorate homes everywhere!
It doesn't stop there...I'm fascinated by glass, it's interactions to heat and other materials, so I make bowls and other vessels and sometimes just make random stuff combining sandblasting and kiln work...I'm always playing with ideas.
I also enjoy clients coming to me with their odd ideas and I've made some very random glass pieces that aren't normally associated with what I do....I love an interesting challenge!
As a kid I was always drawing and that lead me to etching/carving images in glass.
I believe that a career in art is not something someone chooses but you have been chosen, and the path just kind of happens...it can be a lonely and scary world, and also incredibly rewarding!
I'm a big believer in personal style and not following the rules...I'm completely self taught in most areas of my life and think outside even my own box in order to grow and learn. So, even though I may share ideas I will always encourage people to develop their own techniques...have your own look!  Just because I do something and how I do it doesn't necessarily make it "right"....always allow your mind to wonder and experiment with your own ideas.
From my background with drawing I'm obsessed with tiny details and realism, so my carved glass reflects that...I'm constantly trying new ideas that pop in my head that might help my designs achieve a greater realism.
I'm on here to show people how a rather under appreciated art medium sandblasting glass is done, share some tips. Show off new glass carvings, my glass waves, bowls and whatever other new things I create.  I think it would be cool to share philosophies/ideas....inspire and be inspired by others...so I'm also thinking this could be a way to offer support and views on the world of being self employed and chasing art as a career....I know how helpful talking to others that follow their own paths has been to me in the past, so why not pass on experiences.
I also have a habit of creating other random things and inventing stuff.
I have a patent on a fitness device I created.
I made a spreading spoon called the "Sprooner".
I made a useful bookmark that holds a pencil..."Pencil Papoose"
I've owned a pizza restaurant and am planning to open a new restaurant/gallery.
I'm slowly making a cookbook.
I have a coloring book
Oh, my brand "Perfect for Awesomeness" with the goal to support people striving to be the best they can and put a positive mark on their world.
I also read a lot and about a lot of random stuff...and podcasts..and music.....

One thing I love about glass is it's like life...... it's endless possibilities so where I am with it now is not where I will be with it in 1, 3, or 5 years from now...I'm always trying to expand on what I know, develop more, improve.....
So, I'll be open to share the basic ideas on how to sandblast/etch glass. Drawing. Materials and techniques used. Discuss kiln working glass. And, chat with others either already involved with or just getting into it and I may learn as much from you as you do from me!
I'm not sure what this page will be completely but I have a lot of interests and perhaps a community will be born of like minded, super awesome people!  I'm into much more than just my glass art....bikes, surf, travel and cultures, books, music, cooking! I am a proponent of volunteering and I have created and art program for foster kids and a homeless kids program and also volunteer with special needs people.
Maybe this page will be a way to spread good energy and give me a reason to travel too!
So, get on board while I figure out how to navigate this thing and see where this may go, if you have some tips/ideas, I'm totally open!
...I'm naturally an introvert and not one to put a lot out to the public, but, I have to get out of my safe space and try something new...growth!!  :)
