Many of you know me from my writing for a wide variety of outlets - including The Spectator, The Australian, Quillette, the Telegraph, The Cato Institute, and Reason - or from reading my novels (I've written three - The Hand that Signed the Paper, and Book IBook II of Kingdom of the Wicked).

I've won multiple awards for both my fiction and non-fiction, including the Miles Franklin Award, Australia's premier literary award and the equivalent of the UK's Booker Prize.

However, you've never seen me write for outlets that don't pay - Spiked! is probably the best known example of the type, but there are others - because I have a policy of not writing for outlets that don't pay creators. I'm also reluctant to write for outlets that pay very poorly, like Reaction and The Guardian

However, given that three of the outlets for which I do most of my writing have now disappeared behind really fierce paywalls, the net effect of this policy is to deprive people of my writing.

I hear your complaints about paywalls, but I can't write for free.

To that end, I've set up this page so I can write for outlets that don't pay or which pay very poorly. My aim at this early stage is simply to raise enough money on a per-item basis to pay me to write one column a month for a non/low-paying outlet. If enough people are happy to contribute, I'll upgrade it to a monthly payment. Baby steps.

I've also set up a system of tiers so entry-level patrons receive exclusive access to pieces I write for paywalled outlets, while those who contribute at a higher level not only get access to paywalled material but also receive a free copy of one of my books.
