GET ENLIGHTENED.

From young immigrants to survivors of sexual violence to military service members to men on death row, these project participants' stories will change your life.  And the lives of those around you.

Real change begins where fear and separation end. It happens every time we connect authentically across difficulty and division. Facts and evidence rarely change anyone’s mind, but stories open a door into unexplored worlds. Stories are an invitation to enter and experience. Stories create pathways. They open minds and inspire action. Stories make change possible.

Our Collective:
Hidden Voices is a radically inclusive, participatory, and co-creative collective committed to creating a just, compassionate, and sustainable world.

Our Vision and Values:
All lives have meaning. All stories matter. At Hidden Voices our mission is to challenge, strengthen, and connect our diverse communities through the transformative power of the individual voice.

Our Work:
Encourages deep listening, expansive dialogue, and inspired action. Since 2003, Hidden Voices has collaborated with underrepresented communities to create award-winning works that combine narrative, mapping, performance, music, digital media, animation, and interactive exhibits to engage audiences and participants in explorations of difficult issues. Hidden Voices creates venues where stories from those rarely seen and heard by mainstream society take center stage. These life-changing stories provide insight about identity, place, and access. They help us understand the unrecognized, the unfamiliar, and displaced among us. They restore our souls.

Our Process:
The Hidden Voices process-- engage, empower, envision, enhance –facilitates a dynamic exchange between documentary, art, and community that allows for a multiplicity of voices and a multiplexity of understandings. By the close of a Hidden Voices project, between 15,000 and 20,000 individuals have engaged the work through interviews, workshops, exhibits, media, and performances.

Your Invitation:
Join our movement!

This work has always been essential. In the weeks and months ahead it will be even more so. The homeless, the incarcerated and those living on death row, school kids and administrators bucking the school to prison pipeline, survivors of sexual violence, corrections officers, undocumented workers, military service members and their families, black and Latinx youth ... to experience the stories that shape their lives is the first step in this journey toward compassion and toward generating the civic will to address our profound mutual needs.

Hidden Voices invests in the deep listening that produces effective, community-based action. Our projects extend over many years as we collaborate with communities to facilitate conversations and create artistic material to illuminate the complexity of these issues.

Patreon offers you the chance to provide a more sustainable financial foundation for this work. Your patronage allows Hidden Voices to share these stories where they most need to be heard.

We are a registered 501 (c) non-profit organization; your donations are tax deductible and we have multiple levels of support from which to choose. These levels come with unique rewards that connect you with the voices of our participants.

This page will feature updates about the projects in process. And please also connect with us on Facebook, Twitter @hiddenvoicesus, and Instagram, where we post stories and images several times each week.

We are committed to this work and the good it can do for our home communities and our world. We hope you will accept our invitation to continue this journey with us as we enter our next fifteen years.  Thank you for making this journey possible!

Sustainability. It's an ever-evolving balancing act, between accepting new project requests and guiding completed work toward its broadest impact. For example, your Patreon support will set a new chair at our collective table—a projects curator!  It pains us to leave important stories languishing in storage.  The school to prison pipeline, homelessness, family violence, the shared history of African American communities:  a curator will bring powerful community readings to new audiences and interactive exhibits out of storage and into the light.  We decrease our storage costs even as we increase the compassionate action so necessary today.
