Welcome to my Patreon Page "HIGHLAND BROADSWORD". My name is Heiko and I am an instructor for Swordsmanship, a Writer and without knowing it I became a youtuber within the last two years.

I am the head-instructor of the Broadsword Academy Germany. We are part of the international Cateran Society, which I am the current president of. Our work is dedicated to the research and practical application of Historical Scottish Martial Arts from the Clan-Period of Scotland to the Highland Regiments of the British Army. We work with fencing manuals and other sources from the late 17th to early 19th century.

The main weapon in our Curriculum is the Highland or Scottish Broadsword. Our work also covers the use of the Targe, a small round shield, the scottish dagger known as Dirk, the Highland Twohander, commonly but incorrectly called "Claymore" and the devastating Lochaber-Axe. We also have projects on medieval and early modern Gaelic Warfare, especially the Redshank and Galloglass Mercenaries in 14th to 16th Century Ireland. Besides we study the still alive traditional wrestling style, known as Scottish Backhold or Highland Wrestling.

My mission is to research more on Scottish Martial History and Culture and share the knowledge with all interested people, who want to connect with scottish martial heritage and fighting traditions. I want to provide the community with video and written content.

So far I wrote the first book in german language about Highland Broadsword, which was published in 2014 (G&S Verlag, Germany). I co-authored the book "Scorners of Death" about Medieval Gaelic Warfare in Scotland and Ireland (Fallen Rook Publishing, Scotland). I wrote and co-authored several articles for various historical magazines. I had the honor to take part at the first St. Martin Conference in the German Blademuseum Solingen, presenting a poster on aspects of Broadsword and Targe fighting techniques. As an instructor, I already taught different workshops and classes at Historical Fencing and other Martial Arts events in Germany, Malta, Italy and the Netherlands. And of course I create videos about Scottish Historical Swordsmanship and related topics in my youtube channel. You can also find me on Facebook.

You can support my work and participate acitvely. Having you as a Parton not only supports me to maintain and improve my work, like better video quality, research trips and more content. It also keeps advertising as much as possible out of my work. This way I can create higher quality content, spend more of my time to write articles and books, focus on research and spread the knowledge of the old fencing masters and clan warriors. It can also help me to easier visit your fencing group to give workshops, seminars and lectures without charging too high fees and be easier with travel expenses.

In return I will release extra video content, articles and other material like video premieres and project insights exclusively for my Patrons.

Any support, big or small, occasionaly or regulary helps. Thanks a lot!

Cheers!
