About

Thank you for supporting our creative life! I'm Charles, I have been a full time potter since 1994. My goal with pottery has always been to get good, functional, interesting pots into the hands of people who will use and cherish them.

I believe adding beauty to the simplest of daily rituals such as your morning coffee or your meals can have a profound effect on your life.

In 2008, I married Rowan Rose, who was a stained glass artist and I converted her to the pottery life.

In 2014 we followed a potters dream to move into the woods and create, we now live on the edge of the Allegheny National Forest, near the Allegheny River in Tionesta, PA.

The creative life is one of variable income and timing. While we have done it for years, it has always come at a price. My son learned the value of money by thinking about mug making. How many mugs will I have to make to buy that toy? How many mugs will I have to make to fill up the gas tank? How many mugs will I have to make to pay that electric bill? The mortgage? The numbers are overwhelming, but the need to create urges us on despite the difficulties. The beauty is worth it.

Why become a Patron?

Maybe you have enough pottery but love what I do and want to support it in a small way. This is a great way to do that.
if you want to really know what drives me read on.

It’s all about a cycle of giving. We need to make art. My way is to make things to feed people. Body, and if I do it right, the spirit. So many people over the years have sustained this creativity by buying pottery directly because they either love it, or us. They like what we do and think its worth a little support.

We have a proven track record of years of sustained creativity. We will continue to create, but with some backing, we can stop worrying so much about our $479 monthly electric bill and focus on making better work and teaching our minions and expanding the scope of our art and of course, giving back as freely as we receive.

Passing it forward

We try to give when we can, and as folks like you support us, we will continue our giving to our various communities. We can rarely give cash, but we happily provide our work to leverage money for great local causes.

We are big supporters of Empty Bowls events. We recently provided over 80 bowls for a soup dinner to fund a library expansion in a nearby poor rural community. Education and literacy paves the path out of poverty.

If you are a gold tier member we can send some bowls to your local event.

We also donate mugs as fundraisers to our local Lions club which provides the heart of community service in our area.

Because we know how pressing the creative urge is, and how difficult it is to get a studio, get the equipment together and maintain it, we try to enable young or less experienced potters with a strong interest in pottery to keep their hands in the clay so they too can bring beauty into the world. To that end, we try to keep an intern, an apprentice, or as we like to call them, a Minion working with us in the studio. It's generally a trade, teaching and space and materials for labor. I've helped to launch several potters into their careers. I'm proud of that!

We are also happy to donate to raffles to support our SCA friends as well as fundraisers for organizations such as CERF and RESCU which support the Crafts and the Renaissance Fair workers.

We will deeply appreciate your patronage and promise to put the funds to good use!

Reaching this goal would make EVERYTHING better. $500 accomplishes all of the previous goals plus 500 is the magic number for paying our HUGE BURDENSOME electric bill in full, every month.
